Description Back in 2000, I was working on what was to be Satin Steele #4, a story titled "The Hundred-Year Itch". I was trying out several things I hadn't done before with Satin: it was to be full color, and it was to be a web-first (possibly web-only) comic, so it was formatted to be readable in an average browser window without scrolling.

But after completing sixteen pages, I made the decision to change direction on Satin Steele, to relaunch the series as a sort of "sports drama/soap opera/slice of life" comic. So I never got around to finishing this story.

I'm rather proud of the work I put into some of these pages, so I wanted to post them here. The sequence picks up on page 5, the first appearance of Satin in this story, and gives her something heroic to do, as well as set up the bizarre adventure she'd be undergoing. I did complete 6 other pages, but I didn't include them here because they a) didn't have Satin in them, or b) I wasn't (and still am not) happy with how they turned out. ...or c) both.

(The numbering scheme for these pages follows this format: the page order in which these are to be read, followed by the actual page number in the original story. Thus, "10_14" means that this is the 10th page in the sequence, and the 14th page of the original comic.)

The final panel is supposed to be a cover-your-mouth-and-squeal-"omigod!" moment, when the attending physician in the ER turns out to be the same mysterious man who figured in the rescue (then murder) of the woman in the first four (unposted) pages of the story (synopsized here).

I just noticed that Satin's wearing a Busters' tank top- I vaguely remember her ex (from Contest Jitters) had a girl on the side who worked at Busters or frequented there. I wasn't sure if Satin worked there too. Yeah, I like to dig into the lives of fictional characters.

Well, I'm gratified that I've created characters whose lives you'd want to dig into. If you didn't, I'm doing something wrong!

When I get back to chronicling Satin's life on a more consistent basis, I plan to reveal that she herself worked at Buster's for a time.

(The "girl on the side" frequented there, but didn't work there. Although she had the figure to...)

Thanks; I do love Tetsuko, but there's something really awesome about Satin. Kind of like the difference between Archie comics and Marvel or DC.
