I've been watching a lot of the He-Man and She-Ra DVDs that have come out recently and found myself wondering why they changed Catra's design for the show so radically from her design as a figure. So here's my take on it.Related content

i had the toy when i was about seven or eight! it looked just like your art! i even had this big pink cat that she used to ride or something! thanks for the 80's flashback to childhood!

I really like that Catra art.
After looking at my sister's toy and drawing a bit I think the TV show designs mighta come first. I mean that crest on her corset .... it kinda looks like a VERY stylised Horde symbol. I mean, the crystal is a head, it's pointy (liek the beak), and the prongs on the sides have the same numer of points as the Horde's symbol design.

Beautiful work, I really like the shine on the metal bits of her armor.
Catra had several different toys, each with a different outfit. This outfit was on the original Catra, that was packaged alone or with Storm the Pegasus, and appeared with pink leggings and a gray tail on Scratchin' Sound Catra, that came packaged with Clawdeen the lion. My favorite was Shower Power Catra, which came out late in the line.
Possibly Catra's toy didn't look like her cartoon because of the problem with her crown. It would have had to circle her face like the She-Ra toy's did. Never could get my She-ra to keep her crown on....

She looks great! But I've always wondered, if Catra a She-ra thing or a He-man thing, or maybe even both? I was never able to figure it out. Great pic, anyways. The coloring is very neat and clean. Keep it up!

Well, I think the original doll was created for the She-Ra line because they all had that rooted hair while He-Man and friends all had plastic, sculpted hair. But He-Man seemed to guest star on the the She-Ra cartoon plenty of times. Thanks for the compliments, too!
