DavidFolkie — Alex as Red Sonja

Description This is my conception of Alex ( ) as the comic book warrior Red Sonja, posted with her permission. Sonja has fiery red hair and so does Alex, and she seemed a good candidate for the role!

Should this be under Fanart rather than Portraits and Figures? I did use Alex's stock as reference for the face, even though the sword and costume are modeled on the 1970s version of Sonja.

I thought I had commented on this, but obviously my computer is crazy. But...I love it. Naturally Can't wait to see what other world I get put in!!

(even though I don't have red hair. Apparantly it just looks that way )

Thank you, Alex. I am glad the scanty outfit did not offend you! I am thrilled you like it, and astonished to hear you say you don't have red hair. The lighting in your photographs makes it look that way...Is is brown?

Wierd.. I was just now finishing inking a pic with an elfy girl character that wears chainmail and carries a sword.... and here you have a finished piece of a girl in chainmail with a sword.... of course.. they look nothing alike.. but I still think it's cool.. we both start drawing fantasy/DnD type warrior chicks at the same itme.

Thank you, Kelly. This is almost the sort of thing you do when you make yourself or someone you know into a superhero. I always enjoy when you do that sort of thing!

Really, Bruce? I didn't know Sonja was an inspiration to you. I am a casual fan; I don't have a collection of the comics but I do enjoy the character. I'm glad you like this, thank you!

I never collected comics but friends did and I always got to read them. I also loved the movie staring Sylvester Stalones ex. that was one tall woman I think she was about 6'2"

Thank you, Jillian... The scanner didn't quite capture the colored pencil work as well as I would have liked, but it came out well enough for me to post. Some scanners HATE colored pencils...

She wasn't actually wearing that, right? I mean, where would you get the character's costume..?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidFolkie In reply to Leo-Taku [2006-01-07 14:40:58 +0000 UTC]

No, she wasn't. I drew the costume from references to the comic character. I must not have made that clear enough in my artist's comments. I will fix that now. When I do a straight portrait I try to draw exactly what I see in front of me, but there are times when other thematic elements come in... I try to indicate which is which when I post every piece, but I gguess I dropped the ball a little this time around!

Leo-Taku In reply to DavidFolkie [2006-01-08 14:31:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's no big deal. Don't worry about it.
I should've read it more myself, I probably could've deduced that she wasn't wearing it.
Like at "I did use Alex's stock as reference for the face". I guess the face is the only reference of her, therefore, there was no body you were drawing off of for her to be wearing the costume.

Thank you, Mina. I modeled this on several of her stock poses, and she does manage some intense looks in there!

This is really cool! I love the red hair.

It might be best to move it to Fanart, just to be on the safe side. But it's hard to say.
