Great David! I think you should do Jess from different time eras. Starting from the Roaring 20s to...well how you might imagine Jess looking in 2220 or something futuristic! Just a thought! I like themed artwork!

Thank you, Mina. It's funny you should say that, because I am working on a series of "historical Jess" portraits. I hope you like them when they appear.

Very nice work! I really like all the authentic 50's details you've put into the drawing, very "Back to the Future".

it rocks! it croons!! it might have been cool to live in the 1950s, except i'd be a helluva lot older now! i'm not sure i'd have liked a bomb shelter in my backyard, but hangin' at the malt shops would've been awesome!!!!

lovely clothing, I myself am doing a 1950s? type piece for a friend, but I've gone more rockabilly with it, same hair though

I love the composition and the use of the record! It's really lovely!! I love the details on her dress a lot!

Thank you, Stef! I'm glad you like the period details. Are you going to be posting your 1950s piece on dA?

of course! Though it may take a while, I've already decided on changing her design lol!

I just found a wonderful site for ideas for her clothing! [link]

excellent drawing David! the 50s were just before my time (born in 61), but they had a resurgance in the 70s with American Pie, Happy Days, and other film and TV shows. I was never really into the music genre, but the styles for girls were cute I loved the roller girl thing at soda shops. this area had one up into the 80s. the styles of clothing lasted into the 60s till the whole drug induced era everyone remembers from then ...66 and on. excellent post!

Thank you, Bruce. I agree about the style of music... 1950s pop and rock never appealed to me. You're right about the styles being cute. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

oh my yes! did Jess really pose in that or is this male fantasy stuff David? just wondering

DavidFolkie In reply to AngelsInc [2009-05-13 13:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Good question, Bruce! Usually what you see in my drawings of Jess is based 100% on the real thing, unless I'm drawing her with Jabba the Hutt or as a superhero!

In this case, the pose is real, as are her shoes and socks. She wore a sleeveless top that I adapted on the page, and the poodle skirt and the hairdo are pure imagination (based on period research).

Oh, and she didn't really stand on a giant record player!

oh shit, no I didnt think you had a giant LP turntable

so, Im right about the male fantasy thing on the poodle skirt ...nice to see others that can imagine different clothing, but then youre minds as dirty as mine .....

WAIT, that is totally your opinion Bruce. we do not actually know the dirt level of Davids mind

sorry, David, I will refrain from such acusations in the future .....obviously your friend here ia a bit cracked

Ah, the fifties. I miss them.

Okay, so I'm not old enough. I like the literal poodle skirt and the vinyl. If you had to put a name to that record, which album were you envisioning?

DavidFolkie In reply to calivinguy [2009-05-13 13:35:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Brandon. Neither Jess nor I were around back then, either. I love history...it's fun to explore the past in art.

Your question about the album title reveals a staggering anachronism. The album is supposed to be "Ring-A-Ding-Ding," and a quick perusal of Wikipedia indicates that particular record was not released until 1961! Oh, well... I'll have to fix the drawing at some point to hint that it's actually an earlier album that she's holding.
