Last year I was offered my first job for the French post office; ''La Poste'' through the representative of my work in France, Olivier Ciappa.The work was to create an illustration for a new bloc of stamps, where the theme was Tropical Fish.
As a person who never felt safe with the oceans, it was hard for me to get inspired at first. But in the process of creation, the beauty of this colourful world grew on me and became a great way for me to re-appreciate the universe under the water.
(Though I still don't think I would go diving any time soon!)
The stamps will be printed in more them 2Million copies, will have some special effect and hidden characters on them. Right now we are working on envelopes and a special collectors folder which will feature the stamps and some educational facts of the fish in the illustration.
It is a great source of pride to be part of the La Post family, especially on this kind of project.

Reminds me of work by Wyland. In some of his marine work, he incorporates characters from some of Disney 's aquatic films. Seeing Flounder and Ariel, or Nemo and Dory swimming among the realistic sealift would seem very organic in this illustration. Colorful and engaging!

Man, leafy sea dragons are my favorite. Stoked that there will be stamps with them.
re: critique: I think the lighting on a lot of the animals near the bottom of the image don't have cool enough lighting for their environments, but since this is a stamp block, not just a painting, it makes a lot of sense.

This was done using Photoshop and a Wacom Intuos4 Tablet on an iMac.

I was just wondering, were you inspired by Finding Nemo for this? Bit of a silly question, but the clownfish, the stripy one and the yellow/purple one remind me of the characters in the tank XD
