I wanted to do something that featured figures prominently (as they are not my strong point!). Oh, the faces are sooo difficult!

This is lovely! My favorite parts are the people's hats and clothes and the waves in the water. Water is my weak point in watercolor (go figure), so I really like how you've painted the little waves. I'd imagine their faces are hard! Sometimes one tiny misplaced stroke can change a person's entire expression/emotion. The trees and port on the opposite side of the river look good, too! Gorgeous painting, bravo

Thanks Fraeya. Yes, faces, they scare the heck out of me. Thats why I went for vague in this work!

This is amazing! I love the shading and the impressionistic style!  The water is particularly gorgeous with the reflections!

Oh wow, thanks! I've been trying to add some impressionism into my paintings as I think they often lack 'soul' or character - so that's the best compliment you could have given me.

You're very welcome. I'm glad my words had that much impact.

This is really beautiful David   Do you do these from reference photos? I can almost hear the sounds and smell the water by looking at this

My dad was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. I wonder if he ever saw this side of Thailand???   Probably much nicer than what he was used to seeing

Great work

Thanks Annezon! I forgot to add it in the description, it was from a google image search. Done now. Dou you think it's required to add in the exact link or website? Not sure how strict these things are. I always try to use my own reference but I've never been to thailand, sadly.

As you can see, the faces are somewhat lacking - I just don't have the skill yet to do faces well

I bet your dad probably didn't get much chance to sightsee? I have the utmost respect for anyone who gets thrown into that sort of situation.
