Side note..when I was in a glider club a few years back..the FAA supervising pilot was Rudy Opitz who was one of the test pilots the Komet.....he had been living here since after the war and worked with Lycoming out in the Lordship section of town.

Yeah I read the caption, interesting stuff.Β I wonder if he was a Nat-Socialist and was a believer in ol' Hittie.

Who knows..they never said.. but with top secret programs..I'm sure most HAD to be party members..he came over with that operation Paper Clip program where we raided German engineers, scientists, and others..the program that brought Werner von Braun here.

Wow, you got to know Mr. Opitz! A real honor for you. Also, this is a very good painting, and very dramatic. The blurred background and the gradated sky really sets it off.

Actually it did.. but it wasn't too effective due to the limited engine run 5mins.. they got about 16 allied planes.. but they lost nearly as many of these.. the Me262 would have been more worrisome had that come out earlier..

The early designs that lead to the Me-163 were sailplane designed by Dr. Lippisch. I studied many of these designs when I was at school. I thought they were very intriguing. Well done. Thanks.

No surprise there.. it had fuel for only 5 minutes of flight and had to pretty much glide down again...."Thanks
