If this is your dog.. you're lucky!
He's a cutie!
I really like how this is speaking for itself.
What an amazing picture and capture.

Thank you so much Gabbie. He is my dog and a nutcase....but he is also a sweetheart. His sister Kailee is pretty camera shy so I have fewer picture of her, but I certainly am a proud papa.

There isn't anything I can see in this photo that is negative, the only thing I can spot (and I'm reaching for this) is the ever so slight over exposure to the top of the dogs head, but that's due to quite strong lighting.
Other than that the composition with the way the dog is perfectly aligned to the middle with the dogs shoulders turned away ever so slightly away making the dog turn his head and look at you. The ever so slight fading darkeness to the edges gives it a wonderfull aged feel. Great DOF and yup .. its an excellent piece.

Thank you for the compliment...actually you are the first person to mention the over-exposure....I knew there was just something off, I could not put my finger on it. In person he is has a sheen to him (silver-gray color) it just does not come out well in the photo.

Thank you for the compliment. It is essentially straight from the camera...the only things I did were cropping a small bit of the left side of the image and adding the smudged border. Fortunately my camera has a really nice portrait mode and blurs the background all by itself.

sissismay [2004-07-29 14:38:08 +0000 UTC]
This is a great shot, what a beautiful dog to. I love how the background is blurred, it brings more attention to him. I love the expression but I think it might look better in black and white. The border seems a bit to plain but thats ok because if it was more decrotive it would take away from the actual picture. My dog would never stay still for a picture, unless he was laying down or sleeping. Your dog has beautiful eyes to, so deep. How old is he?

Thank you for your kind words...Zach just turned 5 years old, he is very good about sitting still - I truly believe that he enjoys having his picture taken.

DavSimon In reply to utarefson670 [2004-07-29 13:48:54 +0000 UTC]
Yes I used a blurring tool on a black layer to gwt the blurred edges - am am new to photoshop, I suppose if there were a burn tool it would be easier than what I did.
Zach has alway been pretty inrospective...he looks as though he is trying to figure somthing out all the time. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

this pic is great. i think the part i like most about it is in the dogs body, you can see the tendens and bones sticking out and the muscles, it reminds me of human form.... and our collar bones and whatever, its very cool.

That's an incredible shot that you've taken. The soft background, the pose, the clarity... I'm not sure this could have been done any better.

Wow, that is certainly high praise. I wish I could say that it was all planned by me. I believe it was just lucky circumstances that fell together and worked out.

this in an excellent shot. U really captured his character very clearly. And the picture is so sharp. Not to mention the fact that i love dogs. Is this one a vizla? or a pointer?

He is a Weimaraner...very similar to a Vizsla only a little larger and heavier boned....oh and silver gray.

Thank you for the compliment. You do not have any pets now? I have owned dogs all of my life, but after owning 2 Weimaraners..I can't imagine owning any other breed. There is something unique in how strongly they bond with thier owners.

I really like this shot! The dog's pose is great, and it's such a clear picture. (I can only imagine how difficult a look like that must have been to capture.) This picture's pretty striking because of the dog's expression--the look in his(?) eyes seems very human.

Thanks for the credit...but it was not difficult to capture at all. I was actually sitting on my front walk trying out a new lense to see if I could do macros with it...and I saw him standing there picture perfect...I called his name and snapped two shots. The first one I jiggled the camera this one came out. I guess what I'm saying is that is was luck much more than skill.

I have 2 as well. Zach my model...and Kailee. She is nearly as pretty as he is, but she get very fidgety when the camera comes out - I suppose she is camery shy.
