Description     Elizabeth fainted in her chair. James shook his head smiling and untied her. His spell had worked perfectly on her poor mortal mind.

“Now if you’d only understand, my dear friend.” He said lifting her and laying her on the bed. James began to change, his body growing and changing into a full grown man, he now looked like an older matured version of his illusion boy self.

“If that impulsive dog stays away then I won’t have to kill you again, my sweet, sweet Elizabeth. Even if I found my mate I could never love them as much as you, besides,” he brushed her boy cut bangs to the side, “in this life you were created for a vampire,” he bent down snuggling close to her and kissing her forehead, caressing her body, “Forget everything that happened this night.”
--
“Daniel! She believed I was actually some Daniel Jefferson!” The angered man ran in the deep wooded area. He tore the glasses from his face, crumpling them and tossing them on the cold ground. He re-found the place he’d come to previously this day tearing away the coverage. He was surrounded by her scent in the tunnel and when he reached the hallow anger engulfed him. His beast raging inside threatening to break free, he quickly calmed it down again. She’s young, he reminded himself.

That’s no excuse for her, we’ve done this before, his inner beast reminded, speaking deviously. He was too tired to fight his instincts and laid down listening to its violent ranting. Forget these restrictions of your civil hunting; go and kill the charlatan that is probably embracing your own mate right now. While you have been suffering they have been happy.

He closed his eyes and tried to push the images away, but he knew himself that the vampire would have to die. Slowly, painfully and to every extent he would die.

Elizabeth woke up in her PJ’s feeling terribly sick, something happened… She looked to her clock and saw it was three o’ clock in the morning. It was way too early to be awake. She couldn’t tell if she’d been asleep for hours or seconds, she couldn’t even remember coming to bed—or anything, but she had a faint nightmare that lingered in her mind. James was there, and she had been running, she ran from the park to the diner…Another strange man came up to her and she hugged her pillow thinking about him. He had a name but she couldn’t remember now, he was surprisingly enchanting even in the faintest memory.

Why didn’t I jump across the table and get a piece of that like I would have in any other dream? She wondered , it’s because I was terrified from something . But then James was back and she did things with him, just thinking about it made her blush and smile squeezing her pillow as the butterflies returned. She closed her eyes again, it was just a dream…

--

The next day at school, Elizabeth couldn’t shake the feeling that she was being watched. James met her at her locker and grabbed her hand. At first she was shocked but when she looked into his blue eyes, she calmed down almost magically.
“Hey, I love you,” he whispered.
It was the first time he’d said it out loud to her face and she smiled, butterflies rushing around in her stomach.
“I—I love you too,” She replied closing her locker. He smiled, “After school, what do you say we go to our spot, we can work on homework or study or talk…”
“Yeah, sounds good,” She said the words slipping out of her mouth like she was in a trance.
“Kay, Liz, see you there.”
--

“I can’t take it anymore,” He said into his cell phone through his anger, “I’m gonna kill him, I don’t even care about the curse, I just want him to die. I want to see him bleed, Fredrick!”
“Whoa, Dragan, I can see why you would be like this after a few centuries of this, but you know what will happen if you kill him, you will never see her again. She has to kill him, and for a human like herself to try to kill that vampire maniac, it would be madness, impossible.”
Dragan leaned back against the trunk of the tree as he watched his young mate through the window as she walked down the school corridors-- so happy… because of him, the monster.  The beast in himself stirred, and he felt tears of rage and sadness build in his eyes, “That should be me, making her smile…”
“I know it hurts, brother, but don’t give up… my little witch tells me change is on the horizon for you, keep her close,” Fredrick assured. Dragan could hear his brother’s mate, a witch named Emma, speaking quietly to him.
“She says to tell you, not to kill him today.”
“Tell her I can make no promises…” Dragan snarled wiping his tears away. He heard a small argument and some ruffling static through the phone.
“Look,” Emma had snatched the phone away, “You seriously can’t kill him, you’ll just have to try to charm her away from him—”
“I already revealed myself last night to her in some diner she ran in to, I can’t show my face!” He argued.
“Idiot! Is she still with James?”
“Unfortunately…”
“Then she probably doesn’t remember last night, he probably probed her mind out.”
“Why would you use the word probe?” He asked closing his eyes and rubbing his face as his nightmares of James taking her came into his mind.
“Because I know it makes you mad,” she laughed.
He used all of his control to not yell, “Give the phone back to Fredrick.”
“What’s the magic word?”
“Emma, I will personally run to Romania to burn you on a stake if you continue to piss me off, give the phone to Fredrick!”
“You’d have to run, then swim, then run to get to our castle sweetheart.”
“You—!” Unfocused, Dragan stood on the branch, losing his balance in his rage; he found his gut sink to his feet as he fell from the tree. Unable to grab on to anything he landed on his back getting the wind knocked out of him. Dazed he tried to rise, the sun was blinding and the throbbing in his head almost bearable. He felt some small object nail him in the stomach—his cell phone.
“That—bitch…” he said unable for any other words. He picked up the cell phone to hear,
“He fell out of a tree—yes he’s a genius—poor baby, are you okay?”
Unable for words he hung up, catching his breath he rose and dusted himself off. Thank god no one saw that… He thought looking around—something caught his eye, the glint of silver. He turned to one of the windows to see James standing there with a silver bullet in his fingers, twirling it around. A daring glance in his eyes said, “You know where to find me.”
Dragan grimaced, “Don’t worry leech, your time is coming to an end soon…”
Dragan awakened the beast’s eye, flashing their piercing pale blue color to James. James pretended to be afraid and showed his own blood sucking eyes and barred his fangs. Dragan smiled, putting on his sunglasses and turning his back to him. He began to walk away to make preparations for James’s demise. There was much that needed to be put into place if he was going to murder a man and steal back his mate…
---

After school Elizabeth rushed home, too excited to even think. She had been texting James throughout all of seventh and eighth period. He had hinted there wouldn’t be a lot of studying or as much talking. She jumped into the shower with her toothbrush smeared with toothpaste. She brushed feverishly and washed with her favorite Bath and Body Works Lavender soap, making time to quickly shave her legs. When she got out she smeared on her deodorant and began blow drying her short hair. Looking herself over in the mirror she felt her confidence drop, especially when she opened her towel to examine herself. She tried sucking in her gut but she still felt insignificant. It wasn’t that she was fat, she just still was a little chubby in her gut and legs and was extremely self conscious about it….
“Ugh, clothes,” she said to herself as she tied her towel back and began rummaging through her closet. She pulled out her laciest pair of underwear and one of her few bras that wasn’t a sport bra. She pulled on her jeans and t-shirt and did the finishing touches to her hair before checking her watch, “Fifteen minutes, new record…”
She grabbed her backpack and her cell phone texting James with a smile:
hey, I’ll be there in a few
Almost instantaneously her phone buzzed with the reply: k can’t wait

--
James smiled sadly as he pressed send. His thoughts were a mad mess, but after seeing Dragan he realized the time was drawing close, and he’d have to start over.
“I’ll try to make it quick and painless, Elizabeth…”
