[link] <- previous ~*~ next -> [link]LOOK!! I think I'm getting better at forest backgrounds!!
For once I'm completely happy with the background, doesn't look rushed, no repetitive pre-made brushes, and vibrant colors. You'll never guess what inspired the background change though X] its was the movie Spirit in that scene where he is captured and being dragged through the forest. I was watching the movie while finishing up the characters and wished my backgrounds could be as beautiful and then when I actually got to doing my Backgrounds, I thought why can't they? So I paused the movie at that part drew a sketch and color pallet and watched the movie while drawing my bg -going back to the scene when i needed a ref.
I think I watched that move like 3 or 4 times, and then Brother bear twice ... OH and Phantom of the Opera at least 4 times while making this... I get to lazy to switch the dvds so I just keep watching what ever is in.
Anyway open to critiques and helpful suggestions =] and I hope you like the page.
One thing I just notice I need to fix is either make Ruric more surprised looking or add the little surprise marks by his face. cause he doesn't look as surprised as I had first thought he did =/ ... but its 4:57 am right now so that can wait till later in the morning ... or early afternoon

WOW the wolf poses are perfect, as if you had a wolf in your livingroom posing for you or so lol.. Incredible that someone takes the time to make a comic with wolves in it that are actually WOLVES, the poses, the anatomy, the shading, those eyes, what a fucking work will that be.........! I love your artwork. Beautiful.

The background is GORGEOUS! Definately some of the best forest BG work in a comic I've ever seen. I've hiked around a lot and I actually really feel the same forest vibe coming from your layouts here, so great job.

This is awesome. One of the greatest comics Iv'e read, also one of the ones I watch closely. I think the shading is very well I love how detailed you make your characters. I feel this last page is some-what better than your others (not that their all not totally awesome because they are. :3) When is the next one going to be out?

Very nice! I noticed a very large difference between the characters from page 13 to page 14, but I have to admit that they got better
More realistic, I guess. And the background is simply breath-taking! You did a fantastic job on this page! The expressions are also very well made.
You don't mind if I watch you, do you? I would love to follow not just your comic, but your art in general is very beautiful and amazing!

There's also an easy way to make an animal look surprised. Minimize the pupils and enlargen the eyes

Whoa, awesome. You have improved so much since the last page you did with these guys. You've given them such depth and character, along with your unique style. Your backgrounds are also amazing, lush and beautiful, but not overwhelming the picture like some tend to do. So basically, you have created a gorgeous place for your characters to play out their story, and while the focus stays on them, you can't help but admire all the work put into the page.

woot awesome page, and i kinda see surprise in a raised eyebrow there but its hard to tell, awesome work on the background this time really like it better than the pre made brush type, it flows better now. And them howlin jowls be sexy i want to poke them

I think that if you're not too keen on spending more time on fixing the last panel, just add the marks. It gets the point across just as well. :] Lovely page, and I notice you've improved. Good job!

I've never thought about using movies as references for backgrounds! Of course, though, I'm going after the (new) Narnia style: realistically detailed to the point where you think they're photographs. This is why I take forever!
Anywho, yay! I've decided to reread the comic like yesterday or so, and noticed how long it's been since you made another page, and I became a sad panda. I didn't expect one so ironically soon! However, I gotta ask, did I miss something, like an update or something? Cuz you're changing names and the style? I've been kinda "meh" paying attention to the people I follow, so I miss these things.
Either way, I guess Ruric does need to look more surprised. You'd be able to tell in a movie or something because you get to work with animation. However, on paper, you gotta make do with what's been used before for these types of reactions. So, I approve of you using the "surprise marks". Haha jk.
