Description The Grand Canyon is about 1,800m rim to bottom, at the deepest section. Call it 2,000m. The oldest exposed rocks at the bottom are about 2 billion years old. That works out to about 1 million years per meter vertical drop as you go down.

It is hard to judge the scale in these pictures; Grand Canyon is beyond human scale. If I remember correctly, the drop in the picture is at least several hundred meters.
