I'm drinking the moonand thinking of you
beneath a starlit sky.
Alone I stand
here on this land
without a sense of time
For space is lit,
unmarred by grit -
a sight too seldom to miss.
The lustrous light
staves off the night
and beckons me to wish
That you were back,
holding my hand,
forgetting life somehow.
As dawn draws near
without you here,
I lie awake for now
And pray for you,
my love so true,
wherever you may be,
that this same moon
will shine for you
bright as it did for me.

This is really good!Β I know you said you don't care about rhyme and meter in this case, and I totally support that, but just consider the possibility of maybe (if you want) making one tiny little edit here... delete the word "black" in this line: "staves off the black night".
