Is it INVADER DIB? If it is, Eric Trueheart kind of promised ZAGR in it! Given that toon characters age a year per season (which is itself a year) & the show ran, unfortunately, for 2 seasons from 2001-2002, but the comics acknowledge the passing of time yet rendered the characters as if they barely changed at all, it stands to reason that 9-year-old Gaz in 2017 would be 25-to-26-years-old & capable of making her own choices. That means, if she wants to get with ZIM & become the Empress dominating the cosmos after a final showdown between Dib's forces - the previously unseen Meekrob, the Resisty, and Dib himself alongside a vengeful Tak (who turned against her people for leaving her stranded for failing to usurp ZIM of his position as Earth's accidental would-be ruler [which was actually a lie told to ZIM by Red & Purple, the Almighty Tallest, because they didn't even know Earth existed & had hoped ZIM would've somehow died in all of his mishaps, but he hasn't & has become even more determined than ever to prove himself a capable invader]) - VS ZIM w/ malfunctioning SIR Gir, Zita (an undisclosed undercover female Irken, but unlike Tak, she would be secretly looking out for ZIM in a manner befitting a big sister of sorts, all without ZIM being none the wiser), Larb (ZIM's fellow Foodcourtia coworker who rebelled & joined ZIM in the "Hobo 13" trials & somehow survived ZIM basically using all of his allies to help himself advanced to the winner's circle & become the victor, despite many perils being put in his way so that, by all accounts, he should've died), Skoodge (ZIM's basement base roommate, who would've escaped Planet Blorch - Home of the Slaughtering Rat People - and crash landed on Earth, particularly in ZIM's base, giving ZIM another patsy to use in his scheme to become ruler of Earth, if not the galaxy; He would be used as a literal torpedo in the rescue of female Irken Tenn from the Meekrob in the "Battle of the Meekrob" un-aired episode, leading to fans pairing them - Skoodge & Tenn, that is - off), Tenn (Rescued from the Meekrob being ZIM's ragtag forces), and...just as things are looking darkest for our little gang of Irken rebels wherein Dib's forces are closing in & a vision showing the eradication of all Irken life passes through ZIM's eyes, a hooded figure with only their eyes visible would creep out from the shadowy blackness to convince ZIM to the continue the fight & to not give up. Given renewed confidence & assistance from this unknown ally, ZIM's forces would somehow beat back Dib's attempts to...well...invade (hence the title, I suppose) & what remained of Dib's group - namely himself, Tak w/ SIR Mimi, and what remained of the Resisty & Meekrob armies - would be banished to the remote reaches of desolate planet Saturn. Meanwhile, it is suggested that somehow, the Control Brains would see ZIM as an unsung hero to the Irken people and remove Tallests Red & Purple from their position as leaders for refusing to acknowledge the threat to all Irken life. However since one Irken ruler cannot rule alone (or at least, that seems to be the case), then an event rather unprecedented would occur. The hooded figure who had been so instrumental in helping ZIM's small band of rebels beat back the "invading" threat would reveal herself to be none other than "Dib's scary sister" Gazalene "Gaz" Membrane (Yes, according to the licensed comics, Membrane is the family surname, just as fans suspected). For reasons seemingly unknown except perhaps to Gaz herself & the Control Brains, Gaz would end up becoming ZIM's co-ruler (or in their case, considering that Gaz instills fear into practically everyone on the show - Miss Bitters being the possible lone exception, but that's because we've never seen them interact & for all we know, Gaz might even look up to the old crone prophesying DOOM for everyone on a regular basis, since Gaz threatens to send those who bother her to a patent-pending Nightmare World, where, to quote The Undertaker from his Ministry of Darkness days, "The plague of Darkness is coming; an all encompassing evil from which there is no escape, no mercy, no hope. It's called the future, and in the future, I will look down upon thee and I will decide whether you are an Agent of Darkness, or are you just mere kindling for my fires. The Power of Darkness shall be offered only to a chosen few." - Gaz will become Empress and even ZIM, mega-maniacal as he is, would be subservient to her) & they would rule together across not just Earth, but Irk, as well.

What's surprising nonetheless is how easily they communicate and are able to work together, especially in the comics. It should be reminded that ZIM in both the show and comics struggles to communicate with humans without insulting them or going on a rant, and Gaz usually finds a way to quickly avoid confrontation altogether. In the comic's 16th issue, the greatest showing of their strange dynamic is presented, where their exchange of ideas/updates on Dib are cohesive without much argument (or rather blowing out of proportion) and they're both able to scare Dib...Of course, at the expense of ZIM being caught in the fear siphon's explosion. A prominent example of their odd dynamic is shown in page 16. The two talk to one another in friendly manner when they sadistically mock Jerd Kerkin's inability to tell a scary story to Dib, which marks the first time they've ever agreed on anything. ZIM then calls his relationship with Gaz into question by asking her why they never talk, hinting he's enjoyed their team up so far. Despite clearly being able to hold a friendly conversation with him, Gaz establishes her feelings towards Zim by saying, "Because I hate you Zim. I hate you so much." Of course, given Melissa Fahn's confirmation that "Gaz CAN love, she's just better'n everyone else" from the DVD commentaries of the holiday episode, it could just very well be a mask, since Melissa is herself quite the romantic outside of voicing Gaz. In contrast, since ZIM is so up front with everything, he responds in kind with an earnest smile on his face, replying, "I hate you more, you know." Fans of ZAGR have interpreted the panel as a comedic take on the foe romance subtext trope since ZIM's positive attitude and seemingly romantically structured response contradicts the supposed genuine hate. It probably isn't the case, however likely it may appear, though. Regardless of this verbal exchange, issue 16 has shown that both ZIM & Gaz, for the first time, are able to work with another character effectively and successfully. There's even a sliver of them being on good terms with one another, which IS astounding given their mutual egotistical, stubborn, and violent characteristics which have prohibited them from working well with anyone else! Issue 21 of the comics may also further develop their relationship since they accidentally switch bodies in that issue, so more development of their relationship is perhaps on the horizon, prepping for INVADER DIB when it finally is released, as rumors dictate it could very well be.
