Description Bahia de Los Angeles, Mexico, is by far the most beautiful place I have ever visited in my life. Over the next few posts I hope to describe in each a small aspect of the culture and climate of Bahia de Los Angeles, or Mexico in general. This is, of course, only based upon my experience.

Bahia de Los Angeles is paradise largely because it has not yet been invaded by American tourism. America is kind of like King Midas, except everything it touches turns to shit. (that's a Stephen King quote btw). I have been going to Bahia de Los Angeles since I was very young, and very little about it has changed in the past ten years. The ocean is still full of fish, the shore still full of clams, back in town home-made tortillas for 50 pesos a bundle.

Along the shore, as far as the eye can see, maybe three or four people. Most of them natives or the few tourists who come out this way. In front of you, the Sea of Cortez - home to whale sharks, huge humboldt squid, delicious clams (which you can pick right up off the ocean floor), octopi, and all kinds of freaky shit you can only discover if you flip over a lot of rocks.

This photo was taken at around 5:10 AM. I got into the habit of setting a timer to get up at 4:50 AM every morning in order to start shooting the sunrises. My lil' bro got up at around the same time and went straight to the tidepools for morning hunting (coincidentally, hunting for the same freaky shit creatures mentioned above).

Cheers, and more photos from Bahia later!

- Chui

Technical info: shot taken with Canon 1DS DSLR, F16, 15 second exposure and 10 second exposure (one for foreground, one for background). Tripod, of course, and remote shutter release.

I love those kinda neutral and cool colors, gives a nice feeling. And of course the silky effect in the water from the long exposure. I lovet his kind of photography.

Btw. did you use a polarizer filter? Because it's quite obvious that its easy to see under the surface :]

You absolutely have to visit Bahia. It is really far out of the way, but the people and the culture there make it an oasis - luckily one that hasn't yet been exploited by American tourism.

SD... San Diego? That's California, yes? Hmm, it'll be a while 'fore I can get there, as I live in Georgia, so we got the whole danged country 'tween us. It is sadness. The good news? I'm a senior, so I'll be able to go out to new places, soon. I just have to find someone to drag along, and keep me company in my trek across the States. Not my best friend, though, as she said she's going to go on a cruis with her family next summer. x_X

Absolutely stunning. It looks so mystical and unreal. I love how the water turned out to look like mist floating around the rocks.

Thanks man! The mist effect is from the long exposure. When rushing water is exposed for a long time, 5 sec +, it starts to look like mist!

Great to see that just a 5 or 10 seconds will do for the mist effect, then I can try it out with my camera, too

I just love your photo... the black rocks against the misty white sea, the soft gradient in the sky...

Woooow. Zoomed out it almost looks like clouds, with rocks poking through, instead of water. Amazing as always, chui.

Thanks man! When you are there in the morning, taking the photos, I guess that it can feel kind of lonely. But not for me! The reason? My entire family got up at the same time and went out to the beach with me. In many of these photos, my brother is only a few feet away from me, looking for sea creatures beneath the rocks!

Very gorgeous shot. Sounds and looks like a beautiful place.

Such a truth is found in Stephen King quotes. My favorite get-aways are always the ones that're undiscovered by the travel agencies. And it's better that way.

Hey there .

Stephen King definitely rocks... I didn't quote him directly about America, but his King Midas reference was brutally stolen to fuel my message!

Cheers!

Wow Daniel. This is really beautiful.. and I'm glad you captured one of your experiences for all of us... I love the technical aspect of this.. it's sharp and clean as if I was right there. The black border is perfect for this shot. It doesn't distract my eyes as it contrasts with the white mist on the water. I don't even know if that is mist.. but it sure hell looks like it. I love illusions.. shadows and mirrors. I love how you managed to capture this shot with a lone bird far off in the distance.. it brings out an isolating feel to this.. as if I was missing home when I'm on vacation. I love the colors of the sky.. beautiful dawn. Damn good thing you woke up early cause you'll find beauty..often when no one else is around. The rocks somehow seem particular by bulging out in a line.. like a path.. so what I get out of this: When you were brought into this world... be prepared to have ups and downs.. often you'll find yourself alone.. when you travel down the steps of life.
