You might like some of the other Star Control characters I re-created like the Ur-Quan, Orz, etc.

There is something off about this one, though I'm not sure what. It could be that I always had the impression the Ilwrath had eyes on top of those protruding fangs...

All in all, great work. However, I'd try to put slightly more emphasis on the fact that the Ilwrath are religious fanatics. Some more alien writing scrawled across the surface of the pillars might certainly make this even better.

I'm not seeing eyes on those fangs but a glint. I would expect the eyes to be a bit more round. Here's the original I used as a reference: [link]

It's weird with such low resolutions, your mind fills in the blanks. You see eyes, I see a light glint. It could just be graphical quirks left over after downsizing the colors.

I was thinking the same thing about the religious stuff. I'd like to work more on the...umm.. shield thing at the bottom, and add some writing to the thing. I think I can spruce this image up with just a few small tweaks. Going outside the established picture a bit.

The thing that's really baffling me are those two purple shapes coming out behind the captain's head. :U Is that a headdress? part of its anatomy? the captain's chair maybe?? (why would it need a chair...) XD

I always thought those things were something like mirrors, for their eyes in the back to see properly to the front.

Ohh, clever theory. :>

(Then, the Umgah would need over a dozen mirrors, har har har...)

The best I could make out was it was a headdress. Since they are religious fanatics I could see that. No clue if thats what it really is. Look at the original pic and tell me what you see. I may be wrong here.

Yeah, who knows. But, personally, I feel it's a bit too distracting to be a regular part of the Ilwrath. All the other races seem to have a nice, concise design both in terms of anatomy and apparel, and having that weird thing behind its head takes away from its spider appearance y'know?

I want to think it's a headrest for a mostly hidden chair and the web itself is meant to be like a ship's steering wheel, not an actual perch for the captain.

There's no apparent seat for it to be a chair. And it doesn't seem to be connected to anything. It's in the original here: [link] so that's why I put it in. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of it as a chair, but since the body goes so far back that it just seems weird and awkward. When I first saw it as a kid, my monitor was a bit dark so I saw just the lighter part of it as his horns.

I don't think it loses too much of its spider appearance, since I'm sure if you ask anybody they'll say it's a spider (even though it has 10 legs). If it looks more alien and less Earth-like, I'm fine with that.

The using of the web as a giant steering wheel. I like that. Again, growing up with a crappy monitor, I thought the 'steering wheel' was its rear end
