VirgilThis is a tribute to my great friend and mentor Sang Lee.
In life he was a guide to me and to others. A great artist and a true friend. For some time I've been meaning to do something to honor his memory.
Recently his birthday passed and I got to thinking about him. A decade ago I asked him to draw Virgil from Dante's Inferno for an event I was organizing. I gave him some paper and some charcoal and he went to town. He came back to me with several drawings that to this day I feel are among his most memorable works.
This image was originally a black and white charcoal created by Sang. Using photo manipulation techniques I extended the original image, gave it color, and lighting treatments.
Sang gave this to me, and so now I give this to the world. May his energy and boundless spirit soar the universe, and if in the darkness you ever find yourself lost, let Virgil guide you.
