Description Before Oliver & Company, before Tailchaser's Song and Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before Erin Hunter's Warrior Cats there was the story of the shy little black cat in the red scarf - Jenny Linsky.

I only found one piece of art on DA inspired by this wonderful 1940s children's series [link] which I instantly faved. And I thought I'd add some more Jenny inspired art.

This was one of my favorite book series as a kid and I still love the books to this day. In fact, Mom got me "Jenny Goes to Sea" last Christmas to replace the beloved (and very bedraggled) copy I sadly lost several years ago.

The characters are very likeable. Jenny (top) is a mild-mannered little black cat who is shy, but is brave when pushed. Checkers, her brother (bottom left) is a bit on the naughty side. And Edward, the eldest brother, is a poet with a love for words as well as food.

I adore the character of Jenny Linsky because I'm such a nut for black cats and negative space, both of which I can employ when drawing her

I tried to draw the trio in a way to pay homage to Esther Averill's style which is very simplistic and only uses color in certain spots - such as Jenny's scarf. I did color the cats, however.

Check out these books if you can. Great reads!!!

That's not terribly surprising. The books were out of print for a very long time. They're only beginning to come back into print which is great!
