Description
The whole world teetered on the edge of a sword blade. The bird-
creature's breath rasped in and out.

"Nooo!" cried Tomas, thrashing in the monster's grip. "Stop! Stop
it! Don't hurt her! She's my friend!"

"Don't listen to the child, he doesn't know what he is talking
about," Banagher snarled. "The Morrigna have plagued my people for
generations, and this one is no different. I say kill it, before it
kills us," his muscles tensed beneath his coat as he prepared to
strike.

"You're wrong!" Tomas' voice cracked beneath the strain, and tears
ran down his face. "She saved me, she chased the monsters away,
she's good! Shut up!" He clung to the creature's chest and wailed.

The raven-wolf hissed and glared at Banagher, clutching the sobbing
child closer. `The Phelan prince will not listen child. His people
are happy with their ignorance."

Banagher raised his sword and lunged, coming to an abrupt halt as
Riona stepped into his path, bracing her hands against his chest. He
loomed over her, panting with exertion, teeth bared.

"Stop!"

Everyone froze. Riona's voice echoed through the clearing. "If Tomas
says she helped him, I believe him. Maybe she isn't the monster you
are looking for…"
