I don't so much mind the fact that they changed his color as I do how terrible a job they did of it. Every time he's on screen, he obnoxiously draws my vision.
At least one good thing came of it, though. Team Four Star's Blue Popo reminds me oh so very much of C3PO.

The above is correct, he (Mr Popo) also shares similarities with the "minstrel show performers." The minstrel show was an American entertainment consisting of comic skits, variety acts, dancing, and music, performed by white people in blackface. Basically Minstrel shows lampooned black people as ignorant, lazy, buffoonish...etc.
While Funimationβs English dubbed Mr. Popo speaks complete, highly sophisticated sentences, the Japanese version proves him to be a seemingly primitive figure. His grasp of the common tongue is less than the English-dubbed version makes it out to be...

Yeah, but the fact that Popo looked like he originally did for so many years, and to have him just NOW go through such a drastic change is what upsets me about it the most.
It they felt it was that offensive they should have changed it from the start, like they did with Jynx from Pokemon.

Dragonball Z has alot of other controversy aswell in DBZ like hercules name, nudity, profanity and even the transformation to super sayajinn being similar to Hitlers idea of the perfect race of super soldiers. Oh and lets not forget some of the perverted stuff Roshi does lol.
I'm a fan of the show by the way Mr Popo just stands out as the most mind bogglingly obvious thing. However who knows maybe Toriyama was a fan of jonny quest and wanted to add a indian character? Then again the wiki says he could be namekian lol.

Dragon Ball Kai. A remastered version of DBZ with lots of filler episodes cut out, and ven some new scenes. There are multiple versions of it, one by Funimation, one by 4Kids, and one by some 3rd company I don't remember.
I'm sure you know that the Dragonball franchise has been around since the late 80's/early 90's, and the character of Mr. Popo has already been well established. Why change his color NOW?!
