Well thankyou my friend. I don't consider myself very good at photoshop, so this was quite a fun ride.

it is a great shot, I don't deny that, but if you used photoshop a lot on this (and it seems that you have) doesn't this go under the category "photomanipulation"? Again, I like this piece, but I think it's not under the right category.

There doesn't appear to be any mods done that couldn't easily be done in a darkroom if film were being used instead of digital. Most photographers of 30 years ago employed master retouchers in their studios for just this purpose - unretouched, their photos were just as bland as home snapshots without a background.
I remember those days - still have the old Hasselblad, RB-67, and Sinar "P" with both 8X10 and 4X5 configurations and remember very well what it took to get a photo like this one - just time.

and btw retouching IS photomanipulation. Retouching alters the original photograph to look different from what it looked like when the photo was taken. And using photoshop is one form of photomanipulation.

No need of getting so testy - my point was these divisions didn't exist years ago and some of these results (newer stuff) were what we strove to accomplish in the darkroom, hoping to carve out a niche market for ourselves and our photography.
The idea still is to make a beautiful image - save the classifications for actual competitions, which these galleries are not.

testy? I'm not testy.
And yes, the idea is to make a beatiful picture, but I'd still rather know the truth about the picture. I want to know wether or not something that looks amazing really is as amazing as it appears. And I think that photographs are at their most beautiful when they are not altered by changing something in the actual picture. Croppin something out is just fine, but actually altering something completely in the photograph isn't really right. I've seen many works that are supposed to be landscape photographs, but they are altered so much that they could never look like that naturally.
I know that there are many different kinds of people with different preferences considering photographs, but I happen to enjoy photographs that tell how things actually are and I appreciate it if the truth about the pictures is told.

When I created this picture, my intention was not to alter it upon recognition; I was just having fun one day when I was obsessing over the Twilight characters. I will be the first to admit that the original doesn't look anything like this and I never intented on putting this up on deviantart, but I was having fun and I personally loved the result and wanted to share it with everyone. If you've looked at my work, you know that I normally suck at photoshop and don't manipulate most of my photographs, because I too agree that I picture should be able to stand on its own. But, like I said I was just having fun and I didn't mean to offend anyone by it.
