And He answered and said, "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female and said,"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?'So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.Matthew 19:5 (Genesis 2:24)
~~~~WARNIN: SPOILERZ FOR TIGERHEART'Z SHADOW~~~~~
So when reading Tigerheart's Shadow the whole situation between Tigerheart and Dovewing made me start pondering about marriage, and what God displays in His word it should be. Specifically when Dovewing came to tell Tigerheart she was leaving and Tigerheart had to make the decision between going with her or staying with his clan which was falling apart.
I was trying to figure out what I would do in the situation, or rather what would be right to do in that situation. His clan really needed him, he was basically the only respected cat left....but Dovewing is his mate, and their kits are on the way! When I thought about it, the verses I put above came to mind, which made the answer pretty clear that Tigerheart's primary duty was to his mate, he needed be there for her as well as for their kits. I began to just yell at Tigerheart "GO TO YOUR WIFFEE SONN" and I was quite proud of him when he did. I also found it pretty neat that Starclan seemed to tell him to go, even though his union with Dovewing is technically against the warrior code. Also the fact he found where Dovewing was staying at all was a miracle in itself! I can't imagine trying to find a city I didn't know existed, and then try to navigate that city without any directions! And the scene when he finally found her really revealed even more the bond between the too. How excited he was to see her, and how relieved she was to see him.
Then at the end of the book, the loyalty between the two was displayed again. Dovewing simply would not give up on her mate, and the love between them strengthened him to continue walking to the forest through his unbearable pain.
"There was such power in her mew. He fed off it like a starving kit, sucking strength from her, holding it deep inside. For a few wonderful moments, it even blocked the pain."
Even when he was dead she still had hope that he would somehow someway pull through. And he did, wanting to be given nine lives so he could go back to her and his kits.
And then when it came time for them to rejoin the clans, Dovewing proudly chose to stay by her mates side.
"But my heart told me to stay with you." Her gaze clouded with love.
"How could I leave after all we've been through?" She glanced at the kits, who were weaving happily around them.
"And how could I deprive our kits of such a wonderful father?" Purring, she thrust her muzzle against his.
Before reading this book, I didn't care for Tigerheart much and really saw their relationship as completely unnecessary and just there as a forbidden romance for no reason. However, I must say after this book Tigerheart is one of my fave's now (and yet another great dad...honestly this book has so many quality dads XD) along with Dovewing. And the relationship these two have is honestly really beautiful. Just, so much loyalty!!
And yes, I drew Tigerheart as an actual tiger, and Dovewing as a dove...Somewhat represents how they come from two different worlds in a sense, being from two different clans and all. I also thought it would just be fun to draw them as the animals of their names.
