Making it:

- My inspiration was the song with the same name played by Sabaton. Lyrics here [link]
- How I did it? Well, I first drew a vector in Corel , then saved it as an AI file ( I hate AI) and then exported it to Photoshop, and then just added in a couple of textures and some pretty blood
(Originally seen some similar skull tattooed on a guy's arm so I only deserve credit for the execution)

About the Ghost Division:

GD reffers to the 7th Panzer Division from WWII, led by Rommel in France. Don’t go all „nazis are bad” on me, cause I already know that, it’s just that skill should always be appreciated no matter what it’s used for. And if we are to exclude the fact that Rommel was a nazi and just think of him as one of the greatest leaders armored divisions have ever seen, then it would be easy to consider him a great man.

Why the „Ghost Division” name? Well, Rommel had the habbit of cutting off all communications with Hoth and even Hitler, so nobody actually knew what was he doing or where exactly he was doing it – just that he was causing mayhem in France. Learn more about the Ghost Division here. [link]

What was really admirable about Rommel and his ways of waging war was his principle to better ask forgivnes for his actions, rather than ask permission. Thing is he was so great at the whole blitzkrieg thing, nobody could ever tell him he went wrong with any of his actions.

The Meaning

Well, as you can plainly see, from back to front we have several elements – a hard metal background, blood stains and a horned skull grabbing a simbol...

It’s easy to imagine that the hard metal is related to the Panzer tanks and that the blood drawn here is depicting all the lives war squashes.

Above the metal, above the blood, above the war machine, above the dead, is the skull, the man. He’s got 6 horns, which are great for both defense and ofense, just like tanks, but he’s also got teeth, that are great ofensive wepons, just like the human mind. The horned skull is, obviously Rommel. Why obviously? Look at the way I drew the eyes – they are calm an serene as he sent many into the ground without remorse. A steel cold comander he was.

But what about the simbol? Well, it’s an Iron Cross (nazi decoration) encased in a globe with jagged edges. Well, some people wage war for riches, others to defend something, others for their beliefs, others just for glory and for the love of war. Such a man was Erwin Rommel – the globe represents his soul, the soul of a man that has gone trough many things, and the Iron Cross is to distinguish him as one of the greates warrior spirits that have ever lived. So yes, this is a drawing about excellence in war, not about nazis and their doctrine (which I despise).
