I dont know if it applies to Pokemon, but in some other RPGs ive played, Critical hit not only did double damage, but also penetrated raised defence, which would understanably screw over a tank like Mikey

The Snorlax murdered my raticate in my Blue Nuzlocke run.
After that pretty much EVERYONE died D: The only survivor at the end was Persian.

You forgot 1 thing: Damage Variance. There can be up to a 15% difference between damage from the same attack (between 85% and 100% of the max calculated value).

I always defeat the first and catch the second one, because it's fairly hard to catch this thing.

In my Nuzlockes I'm usually a sap, and make it to where no matter what happens the starter never goes down. But then again, it would be neat to have a team that didn't usually revolve around the starter.

I never really bothered to catch Snorlax; fighting it is such a pain the ass. That, and when I did manage to catch it, I never use it. Just one of those box Pokemon.
