The Half Princess and the Void Princes
(Finally I found some time to start showing stuff from my AUs!)
The royal children - and protagonists - of my Hollow Knight AU “The Half Princess and the Void Princes”, in their “half-modern” royal cloaks and half-clothes.
The AU evolves into a Hallownest that discovered modern technologies since few decades, clothing is now a sort of mode, spiders and bugs live almost pacifically together in a Kingdom that did not faced the return of Radiance (for now at least), and most importantly, a world in which there are no Vessels... but Princes. And Hornet, the Half Princess.
Let’s introduce them a bit, with their AU’s backstory!
First of all, why are they called “the Void Princes”?
Their parents are pale, but they are not. They don’t even resemble very much the appearance of the King or the Queen. Why? The Pale King and his wife are hiding a secret that could explain the void essence that these kids have inside.
Genderless, mute, sometimes mysterious, with strange abilities and particular powers, all the royal children were born with a Void essence inside, but are not actually “created hollow” as in the game. No, here they are not hollow, but they were born with a sort of Void shield that surrounds their souls, letting their body and their personality distorted and altered.
The explanation...? Maybe one day our dear Pale King will explain better to us, but for now we know that the King experimented on the children eggs to protect them, in a way, from something he foresighted before having the first child... and, who knows, maybe also he needed void children for one of his cynical plans?
VOID PRINCESPure: The firstborn of the Royal Family, offspring of the Pale King and the White Lady, here our dear “Pure” is not a cannon fodder but an actual child! Well-mannered, strong and kind, a bit reserved, Pure is very attached to their sister Hornet and always wants to be the best for their parents. Very good at fight, Pure is an excellent knight that can face the Great 5 themselves... and in their free time, they love reading comics.
Their name comes from the purity the King wanted for his child - the Void essence that, in the King’s idea, can “protect” his children from a mysterious foe.
Lost: Second child of the Royal family, third of the Pale King - that already had Hornet with Herrah for their bargain. Lost is a hothead, very expressive for a Void being, loves videogames, loud music and fights. Spend most of their time playing games and drums, but also likes to go to their uncle the Redwyrm, the “Lord of Fools”, to have a fight in his almost illegal fight-club/colosseum. They act as bossy, but actually have a - very hidden - kind and brave heart.
Lost picks their name from the fact that, when they were just born, they already disappeared and the King and Queen spent a day searching of them xD
Thorn and Ivy: Thorn and Ivy are twins, and actually were born in the same egg - but their appearance is different due to the Void that change their bodies in different ways - and at birth they shared an arm together: the Void had melted their frail carapax, and to save them the King had to divide the two: this is why one of them, Thorn, have lost their arm. Thorn fight with a spear to balance the weight of the loss arm, is very serious and always tries their best to improve in combact: in fact they care a lot about their twin Ivy, and want to protect them in all possible ways. Ivy, instead, is not good at fighting but knows a bit of magic that uses to eventually protect and cure themselves and their twin Thorn. They are shy and kind, and love reading books in free time.
Thorn’s name was decided when the younger Pale King brother, the “Lord of Fools” Redwyrm had the great idea to cover Thorn’s shoulder with a thorny epaulette. Thorn liked it, and always carry it on their fight cloaks and also on their official “modern” cloaks. Ivy’s name came from the White Lady, that since the first days noticed her child’s interest in plants and nature.
(Additional thing: in-game, these two Vessels can be found into the Nosk nest, lifeless and next to each other. I picked those Vessels to create Thorn and Ivy, because I always felt they were important in some way and always loved their horns!)
Ghost: Ghost is always in search of adventures, and as soon as they can, they tries to go out from the Palace following their sister Hornet around. Despite being very young, the little Prince is very good at fight and is almost able to fight with their oldest sibling Pure. For some things, they act as a normal young bug, but for some other things, it’s seem they are hiding something special. Ghost is the more “Void” child of the family, and due to this is able to hide perfectly their emotions and their thought. It’s hard to understand what this little one is planning to do!
Ghost’s name came from their ability to hide and walk around without being noticed. They are super silent - and very good at hide and seek.
Moth: Youngest Prince of the Royal Family, Moth is a super sweet and kind baby. They hate fights and love to spend time with their mother in her gardens and in the Palace yards. Moth loves to meet new animals, play with them and being a friend of a lot of little creatures. During their free time, they love to draw with Ivy, or stay with their favorite sibling, Ghost. They are also the only Prince that have wings like their father, but they are still unable to use them properly.
Moth’s name comes from their nonviolent nature of them - and also from the Mothwing cloak from the game.
THE HALF PRINCESSHornet is the daughter of the Pale King and the Queen Herrah from Deepnest. The King accepted a bargain with Herrah to stop some tensions with the spiders, to make a good commercial deal with Deepnest and to have a good alliance with the arachnids. So Hornet came out. She is not void - the Pale King did not experiment on her egg, because he did not have the urge to “protect” her with the Void, as she was not an “official” Hallownest Princess - but she is a hybrid between a spider Queen and, mostly, a godly bug, and due for this since her childhood she was forced to spend a lot of time at her father Palace to be raised as a “Higher Being”; (I will explain her backstory deeply in a specific post! for now, lets talk just about her!)
Hornet: Very close to Pure, the only one of her siblings that is older than her, Hornet is getting attached to Ghost, too, in the last years - also if she won’t admit it. She studies at White Palace following Monomon’s private teaching as her siblings do, but then she is trained in fighting by Vespa, the Hive Queen, and is also trying to understand how to succeed, one day, to her mother as a Queen of Deepnest. A confusing life that stresses her a lot, and in addition she grew up during the Modern Revolution, and so she saw a lot of things changing during her childhood. Hornet loves her mother, but she finds a bit suffocating her mother’s ways to treat her as a young child - now Hornet is 19! She has not a good relationship with her father, but instead, she built up a sincere good relationship with the White Lady, that she considers almost as a second mother - and then there is Vespa, that is like her “fake aunt”. A big, interesting family, isn’t it? Hornet is very good at fighting with her needle, but when she is not at the Hive she likes to spend time playing with her siblings - computer games with Lost are always appreciated - and hanging out with Pure and Ghost.
(Now, if you have read it all, you are heroes because I spent like 2 hours writing all of this, and it’s just a summary! xD)
So, these were Hornet and her Void siblings, but they are just the introduction of my big AU! (As you probably noticed, it’s a very self-indulgent AU, but don’t worry, the story will come with a lot of troubles and evolutions ;3c )
