Lace lives in a small village of blacksmiths with her father. Her mother died of an unknown disease when she was still 5. Her father, Zenith, was the best swordsmith in town, regularly being harassed by small time gangs who want his swords. Being in constant danger, Zenith taught Lace how to fight using the swords he forged. One day, Lace's father sent her away on an errand. On her return, Zenith mysteriously vanished without a trace. The villagers speculated that it was because of his latest sword under development... the Piston Blade, which was safely hidden in a small cave half a click outside town. Afraid that whoever took Lace's father would come back for the daughter and endanger them, the villagers cast Lace out. With nowhere to go, Lace took the unfinished Piston Blade and set out to search for his father, working as a freelance sword for hire using her father's unfinished blade, "the Zenith".

Piston Blades:
A long solid sword, fitted with a special micro engine that causes high frequency oscillations to the blade on the bearer's command. This shatters anything in contact with the blade's cutting edge. With a finely forged blade made of a specific alloy, the vibrations may also produce high frequency sonic attacks destroying the contents of a target without even cutting through its surface.
