Description
Some time ago, I acquired two rather Rubenesque female bettas, Madame and Missy. Over time, they had to be separated because Madame became highly aggressive, and would literally batter poor Missy around the tank. She terrorized (and likely ate) the shrimp in her own tank, and was highly demanding at feeding time, eating not only her own food, but the food meant for the shrimp, as well.
For months Madame's actual gender was in doubt; she was touted as female at the pet store, but she was not only aggressive, she made nesting bubbles, and of course, only male bettas are supposed to create nesting bubbles. Upon her death, it was discovered she was, actually ... female. Her ovipositor was verified. Tiny aggressive and demanding brat that she was, I miss her.
Missy still lives, and is current queen of the large tank.
In memory of Madame.
