Description Okay, I know I upload a lot of Madeline, and this is mostly a retool of my previous post, but I like to have a record displaying the progress I make on the various character models as I lead up to the final designs for the comic. I'm always looking for new ways to draw the characters to make them both easier to draw and more fun to look at. I decided to give Madeline a bit of simple detailing on her jacket, including an extra belt and a clearly defined line of separation. I also decided to start drawing her legs with a bit more shape to them.

I'm very slowly getting better at drawing backgrounds, and it doesn't hurt that this style is so fun and easy to work with.

We're nearly there, people! My next few posts will probably be a few pieces of story while I work on an extra special picture I have planned.

She's looking great! I think it's the brighter/lighter background, but she seems to really stand out in this one. I like it.

Thanks! I'm feeling very pleased with the mix of attractive and slightly awkward I have. And yes, I've learned that it looks best if I fade the colors of the background slightly to make the character stand out more.

It works real well. And a small (literally ) detail, butΒ the 'floating' buttons on her boots tickle me (that's not literal, btw). There's something about that detail that I really like. I love the little extra attention you put into this, like the buttons.

Yay, somebody besides me loves the buttons! I'm really proud of those, believe it or not. But they raise a question that's been giving me trouble. When seen from the front, should they continue to float beside the boots, appear as gray circles on her boots, or disappear entirely?

Hmm, it seems like whenever she's facing forward, her feet are still facing sideways, like she is in this one. I just figured that's how she stood, stylistically. You probably don't need to have her feet face forward, if you don't want. I like her this way.Β But if you do want her feet that way, then, uh, I have no idea what to suggest.

True, when she's standing still, her feet tend to turn outwards just to help the style, but that won't fly so well if she's running or jumping while facing the "camera", so I'll need to think about what to do with that. Thanks for saying so many nice things about her design. ^^

Oh, well, point out obvious flaws in my conclusion, why don't cha? Actually, that had never occurred to me. It's a good thing you're planning this and not me. As for when she runs, hmm, I think doing an button outline would probably work (like the lines on her shirt/jacket). It's hard to imagine it without seeing it. It might be best to try it both ways and see which you prefer.

And you're welcome!

lol Sorry. You're mostly right. Her feet will usually be viewed from the side. I just want to be prepared for everything.
