The Vanguard was acquired by Sytel to be used to escape High Charity and house his 'Pylons'- highly advanced slipspace devices that, when in cooperation with one another, can open slipspace portals of any size to anywhere in the universe without as many risks as standard Covenant or UNSC drives in a much shorter amount of time. Sytel regarded his Pylons as being on par with Forerunner slipspace drives, and possibly even better, Sytel took the Pylons with him because he knew that they could've been war-winning technology.

Weapons:
'Sculptor of Freedom'- A Forerunner Double-Bladed Primax Sword, versatile enough to have two configurations: while Sytel can wield it one-handed in its long dual-bladed form, it also has a half-length mode which he can wave around just as easily. He stows it on his back when it's not in use. The Sculptor was found by Sytel whilst he was on a mission as a Zealot. He was allowed to keep it and vowed to make it his primary weapon of choice. Sytel once noted that it took many years of practice to even be able to use it without causing collateral damage. The Sculptor seems to 'zoom' through the air as it is swung and moved, making a 'beautiful' sound as it 'cuts' the air.
'Crucifix'- A Forerunner shield which is able to deflect and defend against many projectiles, beams and forms of energy. Crucifix seems to be able to hit at such an angle that it can deflect even the most sensitive of projectiles like rockets and bullets without destroying or even damaging them, though this may also be due to Sytel's extensive training in the arts of aerodynamic combat.
'Pact of Kings'- A Custom-made 'Biorust' Blaster cannon which fires corrosive microorganisms in a contained blast which anything from metals to biological matter to fabrics and rubber, covering them in a rust-like substance which grows across what they consume, and eventually causes the substance to waste away into little more than orange dust.
'Winterthorn'- A Customised Type-1 Energy Sword that Sytel claimed on a mission hunting down a Jiralhanae heretic who took the sword from a dead Shipmaster. Winterthorn is named as such because Sytel killed this heretic on a wintry planet where he was hiding out-Cauri.
Two Customised and modified Z-110 Boltshots with more damaging and intense projectile energy blasts and a brown paint job with gold engravings. These two boltshots look similar to revolvers from their modifications.
Razor's Edge class Z-130 Suppressor
Loathsome Thing-Class Z-180 Scattershot
Z-250 Lightrifle
Standard Issue Type-25 Plasma Rifle
Pulse Grenades
Plasma Grenades
Grappling Hook

Powers: None
Personality: Sometimes the statement that "Nobody ever changes, they only become more who they really are" is frighteningly true. Sytel 'Privad hails from an older time when High Charity was the galaxy's crown jewel and the Covenant was full of promise and potential. The only known councillor to have lived to the age of 300 and retain his health, he personified what a leader should be: wise, compassionate and a more than worthy warrior. Revered by Sangheili, San 'Shyuum, and even Jiralhanae, few would dare stand against his shield and energy blade.
But Sytel was presumably lost forever on board the Forerunner warship- The Vanguard after he was branded a heretic and attempted to escape High Charity. Thora 'Marumee, his best student, was left to fill the void he left in many hearts. Whilst they had no way of knowing it just yet, the loss of Sytel spelt doom for the Covenant's golden age, and the hegemony only spiralled deeper into its inner conflicts, with no negotiator like Sytel left. Some who recall his office bitterly remember when the Covenant were masters of their fate, rather than scattered to the stars and living as exiles. Above all, Sytel is a staunch nationalist. He loves his home with all of his heart and will do anything —even go to extremes— to protect it.
Whilst on the surface Sytel may be a kind-hearted, inspiring, truly lovely individual to be around, he certainly isn't all that on the inside. There was a time when 'Privad's belief that freedom is everyone's right, and he always sought to make the Covenant see that way. Though who can be sure if that belief is his primary concern now? Because we sure can't.
During his long life in office as a High Councillor of the Covenant, Sytel 'Privadee changed much for the lower classes of the Covenant. Unlike many, Sytel still believed in the ideologies of the Sangheili as a free people and some of the ideals of the Covenant Writ of Union that stated that all races should serve their roles, but be treat equally, and in the Divine Beyond all shall be equal. 'Privadee conceptualised that it isn't the Grunts wanting better rights or the Jackals wanting better pay that makes them traitors, but perhaps those who contradicted this statement in the Writ of Union are the real traitors.
Sytel had many followers, his beliefs were truly remarkable and spread through the Covenant. Thora 'Marumee, N'tho 'Longanee, Elima 'Ona, Turok 'Mdragathee and Rassaag 'Xytargee, new Covenant soldiers all became followers of 'Privadee and his philosophy. The group was gathered by Sytel, who wanted to use the two months before the group would enter the Human-Covenant war as a chance to help them, it was not uncommon for Sytel to sponsor or teach new soldiers as an act of kindness.
The Hardan state on Sangheilios, who believed Sytel to be a mad heretic who didn't want their part of Sangheilios to have any power, launched an attack on the a facility operated by his power base. Turok, Thora, Rassaag, N'tho and Elima-one of few new female recruits, who was only going to become a mere support troop stationed away from action, fended off the Hardans when Sytel and renowned professor Whul 'Javumee successfully transported a Forerunner power generator to the Hardan state on Sangheilios. The Hardans laid down their arms when they received power, but Turok resented that so many of his comrades had died before even entering the Human-Covenant War, and it was only by Thora's persuasion that 'Mdragathee found it within himself to forgive his enemies and shake the Hardan Iron 'Hardanee's hand. Sytel then proclaimed that this was an era of freedom for all. Nobody would be without power, not under 'Privadee's watch.
That evening, Turok eavesdropped on a conversation between Sytel and Thora. Sytel claimed Thora could become a great leader someday, and intended to oversee him until he could one day become a councillor himself. Thora refused, unable to accept he could ever reach such heights and become somehow superior to his friends. The next day, Turok grumbled to Rassaag that if he were 'Marumee, he would have accepted Sytel's offer.
However, as times grew tougher and tougher for his ideologies under the threat of humanity to the Covenant, Sytel saw that freedom was not as free as he once thought. He knew that the Covenant was not going to yield to writers and poets and dreamers. 'Privadee wanted to make the Covenant fair, and he wanted to assure that it did its best to be a Divine Beyond in its own right before reaching the true Divine Beyond. Sytel saw the cost of freedom and was aghast, and he knew that in order to achieve fairness in the Covenant, or indeed anywhere, the only option was utopia, nothing more, nothing less. A perfect society. When his belief in the Covenant religion was crushed, Sytel felt that the only way to reach utopia was by having a congregation of all the species in the galaxy together as had initially been the case on Maethrillian thousands of years ago. Sytel formed a group named 'Trident of Revelation'. He formed it to be the forefront of this utopia. He sought to unite members of the Covenant and Humanity and any other species together to create a perfect society and destroy the 'plague of unfairness' in the galaxy. Sytel secretly added members to this group, ranging from many species in the Covenant, including the Covenant Fringe. At once, 'Privad believed that he truly would see the utopia he had foreseen in the Covenant's future, but as several members ratted him out and he came close to being revealed as am active revolutionary, Sytel lost trust for many people. If he was on the run and a civilian spotted him, no longer would he try and calm their nerves, instead, he would strangle them out of paranoia.
Sytel retained a great working relationship with Thora 'Marumee, and his student became a very trusted friend. Sytel continued to teach his beliefs of freedom and choice to his student, but regarded 'Marumee as more of a son. He told Thora that he respected him because he was a librarian who did little more than read and write before he became a soldier, and that he was still able to keep that at heart when he started fighting humanity. Truly, Thora looked up to Sytel as his mentor and in many ways his father.
'Privadee would visit Thora's home, meet his friends and family, and truly make an impact on Thora's life, even when the Prophet of Burden attempted to turn 'Marumee into a ruthless military general, Sytel pressured Thora never to lose his compassion and not betray him or his beliefs. Ironically, Sytel was doing just that by keeping his darker worldviews away from his good friend.
Sytel began building a piece of technology that could win the war against humanity or destroy the Covenant. He constructed the Pylons- Hundreds of small devices controlled by the 'Achor' Pylon which was a miniaturised Forerunner Crystal Resonance Chamber. The Pylons were such a great invention because they allowed travel through slipspace with much less risks that neither conventional UNSC or Covenant tech could offer. They also could open portals of any size, manipulate all parameters of slipspace and were able to go anywhere in the universe on command though communication with the Anchor Pylon. The Covenant could have used it to destroy humanity by specifying wherever humanity is, but Sytel wanted to use it to help smuggle his followers away from the Covenant and align the galaxy against it, and of course, find the Halo rings and stop their firing, as well as the Cosmic Progenitor cube. Truly, the Pylons would've won any war. Sytel observed that his students were doing well, and were reaching high places in the Covenant ranks.
Alas however, during this time Turok had fallen under the sway of The Ruinous- a vengeful, hateful figure from the 2nd Dark Wars who had tainted Turok's mind in the form of 'The Relic' which had been unearthed on Sangheilios.
Whilst 'Marumee was called to invade other worlds, Turok was summoned by 'Privadee. He told Turok that he had underestimated him, and that 'Mdragathee was a competent leader and a great warrior. He did however, reveal to Turok that he was going to organise a mass rebellion against the Covenant, and that he would collaborate with Humanity on the issue, telling Turok that everything the Prophets had said was a lie, that the Great Journey was a lie. Turok was informed that he did not have to join him in the rebellion.
Turok had a choice to make, which he consulted with the relic. The relic told him that Sytel and his followers must be weeded out. Turok obliged, and as a new Heretic war dawned, 'Mdragathee informed the High Council that the leader of the Heretics was indeed Sytel 'Privadee. Sytel's Social Darwinism was not taken lightly, and he knew this would have to include humanity, especially since he was one of few who knew the truth about Halo and the Great Journey. He was declared a heretic.
Beneath his exterior Sytel knew that there had to be one race at the top of society's food chain. Sytel believed in the Mantle of Responsibility not as an imperial peace but as a way of guidance. He proclaimed that it was bestowed upon one race for a reason. But Sytel's newfound nationalism for the Sangheili, started initially by his loss of trust in others, as the only race willing to make the hard decisions and the only race not held back by fear or emotions betrayed his previous mission statement, and he thought of himself as the only leader who could do what was right.
'Privadee, having been told about, went into hiding in High Charity, and in many cities, his followers and the Covenant Army battled. Sytel renounced his 'ee' suffix and became simply Sytel 'Privad. It was during this time however that Sytel started playing games with everyone on his side. Thora 'Marumee had acted as a buffer for Sytel's radicalism getting too radical, but without his presence in his life anymore, 'Privad went wild. He started to come up with a plan to escape High Charity. He lied, he killed, he manipulated, and he betrayed many allies who he said he would come back and save. Sytel had changed, or as some would put it, he became more who he really is. Sytel's dishonourable actions were being noticed by his fellow 'Tridents', but few spoke out about it, believing that Sytel truly did have a plan.
Sytel's turning point was when he realised how easy it was to manipulate so many species other than the Sangheili. He noticed this trend with his numerous schemes to create enough 'noise' to get off High Charity. And so his belief that the Sangheili were the honourary leaders of tomorrow was enhanced to the idea that they were the mandatory rulers of tomorrow. 'Privad predicted that Turok was planning something and would bring down the Covenant sooner or later. But this would lead to a devastating war that would ravage High Charity. Sytel knew the importance of the Holy City and had envisioned it as a second Maethrillian. 'Privad believed that the utopian land was right here, only tainted by fools and traitors. But soon, they could be toppled over and replaced. The galaxy could unite under High Charity and it would be the beacon of hope he felt it was, with the great Sangheili race at the top, the galaxy would reach heights it could never have reached since the age of the Forerunners.
But of course, this came at a cost. Someone would have to rebuild High Charity after this, and it would not be the job of the Sangheili to do so. Sytel felt that humanity was the right choice as a 'worker species', along with the Unggoy and Kig-Yar. Sytel believed that the enslavement of these races was key to building tomorrow.
It was only a matter of time before Sytel was found, and he was certain Turok was going to destroy him and his followers. To his surprise however, Turok offered the disgraced High Councillor a deal- cooperate with him to help establish the Second Maethrillian, or die with the concept. Sytel made the deal with Turok and his 'Desticron' Revolution. Turok agreed to make Sytel's escape look like a failure on his soldier's part. And on the 4th November 2539, Sytel and his Tridents made their escape.
Using information gathered by Starnam 'Scremee and High Charity Police Chief Barric 'Kaidomee's scouts, High Command learned that the Vanguard- Sytel's Forerunner starship was taking off from the Oracle's Launch Site, and by that afternoon, it launched. The launch was monitored by the Air Force, who scrambled seven Banshee Fighters to intercept it. However, the ship was accompanied by Heretic Vampires, who escorted the ship through its journey, the ship itself had weapons strong enough to destroy the artillery after it. The vampires however, were shot down by the artillery which had been far more zealous than Turok had hoped, and the ship was now unguarded. The Banshee Wing Leader fired a missile at the ship, which opened several panels to reveal smaller missiles, each of which along with the bigger missile chased the transport until they hit it, and destroyed the ship, which was carrying Sytel's creation. However, it was destroyed and lost with the ship. Thora 'Marumee watched the transport as it escaped and was destroyed.
Before being destroyed, the ship opened a slipspace portal, which the missiles knocked the ship into, the portal closed before it could be entered. It is unknown where the ship went, but this was certainly a setback for Turok.
Years later, Sork 'Wavem, a Desticron Communications officer had been using his Forerunner Sonarfighter and the Scourge warship, and detected the location of the lost ship of Sytel 'Privad, a traitor to the Covenant been making deals with Turok While his ship teleported away all those years ago, it left a temporary slipspace portal lingering in its wake, the Desticrons managed to set the Scourge down on a barren moon. The Ruinous, recognising the portal as the technology of his time, spoke directly into Sork's mind, directing him to take some Desticrons aboard a smaller ship and follow the ship through the portal, they would use recovered time travel technology from a Dark Alchemist temple to return to their time when they needed. Complying, Sork's crew found themselves hurled into the past, appearing in the vicinity of Earth in the year 1961 alongside Sytel's ship. The craft proceeded to crash on Earth's moon, and Sork quickly determined to keep humankind from plundering the treasures it contained: the Pylons that he had his crew set about removing from the ship and stockpiling.
Unfortunately for Sork, humanity detected the crash of the ship upon the Moon, and a "space race" began between the United States of America and the Soviet Union to be the first to reach the Moon. The Soviets were first to send probes that photographed the moon's surface: in 1963, their Luna 4 captured an image of the pillars as they were being moved. Realising the necessity of infiltrating the ranks of humanity in order to control the flow of data, 'Wavem had an Imitator drone kill and replace Spetsnaz agent Kalia Kosnova in 1964; then, in 1965, as the Soviets' Luna 6 was in flight, he sent her to Soviet Research Station Oktober to massacre the scientists awaiting data the probe would send back. Convinced by the Imitator that Humanity could be subverted towards their ends, Sork struck a deal with the sole surviving scientist, Xashkav, to curtail further Soviet moon missions. In the process, the Imitator also learned that both America and Russia allegedly had an alien of some species in their individual custodies, but Sork dismissed them as rumours, preferring to focus on the trail of the Progenitor and the Devourer.
Realising that a captive American secret agent, Patrick Solomons had escaped from Research Station Oktober during the Imitator's attack, Sork spent two months scanning information lines in search of him, eventually discovering him when he returned to North America and made contact with his superiors. Although the Imitator failed to finish him off, Sork had at last learned of Solomon's well-hidden organisation: Directive Seven. In 1969, he monitored the launch of their Ghost 1 craft, believing it to be of greater importance than the Apollo 11 moon mission, but his guess proved incorrect: Thanks to Sork's being distracted, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were able to carry out the first brief excavation of the ship. Incensed by his failure, Sork grew even more determined to find a mole within the American space program, and he set Raze to find prospective candidates. He found a NASA accountant named Victor Bryce and tapped the stock market to provide enough financial persuasion for the human to manipulate the NASA budget to halt moon missions from 1972 onwards.
Sork spent the rest of the 1970s recruiting more pawns to prevent the ship from being rediscovered. Eventually, in 1979, deciding that everything was secure, he and his crew departed Earth and the 20th century, as he had successfully planted a cloaking device on Sentinan's ship that took some time to make, securing the safety of Sytel's ship for centuries to come. They departed on the ship they had initially taken to reconvene with The Ruinous back aboard the Scourge.
Now, Sytel remains dead aboard the Vanguard, but his body preserved in the crash vault. Waiting to be revived for Turok's master plan- Operation: Black Moon...
Quotes:
"There is a word...an ancient word spoken by the forefathers, the Forerunners. And not heard for many generations. That word shall be our pledge. Freedom. And it is the right of all sentient beings."
"These people are not our enemies, Turok. They are our friends. We simply have not treat them as such just yet, but now is the time to make that change."
"All life, has value. We must never forget that. No matter what."- Sytel, ironically before forgetting that
"Hopefully one day we will see the bright future I envision for this Covenant. One day Thora. One day."
"There is a plan my friends, and we will escape High Charity."
Qol 'Padam: "You keep killing people Sytel. Why? What demon poisons your mind?" Sytel: "No demon my friend, these people would've betrayed us in an instant, and you know it. We need to remain vigilant. Please...trust...me."
"So majestic and peaceful this planet. Unlike my final days on High Charity."
"I am no longer your teacher Thora. You are mine."
"What you did not realise, my Trident brothers, is that we were never going to win the coming war. So for the sake of our survival, a deal had to be made....with Turok."- Sytel, before betraying the Tridents
"I hereby discharge you from duty."
"Forgive me."
Thora 'Marumee: "Why Sytel, why?" Sytel: "For High Charity. Our home. What war destroyed we can rebuild, but only if we join with Turok and his Desticrons." Thora: "No, it's not the only way, this is our home, not High Charity, we must help the humans." Sytel: "So lost you are, 'Marumee. On High Charity we were leaders, respected, feared, honoured. And here... they call us 'aliens'."
"Let the Earthlings serve us, or perish."
"You are lucky I didn't kill you. In time, you will understand."
Turok Nar 'Mdragath: "This is the victory I promised you so many years ago. Where I rebuild High Charity." Sytel: "I am working with you, so that our home may survive. I will never work for you! And you would be wise to remember the difference!"
"You simply fail to understand that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."
Sytel: "I bring you High Charity, your home. And still you choose humanity." Thora 'Marumee: "You were the one who taught me freedom is everyone's right. AAAAARRRRRGHH!"
"Always the bravest of us! But you could never make the hard decisions! Our home will survive! We were gods once, you and me! But here, there will only be one!"
