I wonder why everybody sided with Castalia, hahaha... She was the one using violence here...
Kane is not an aggressive guy and he is so good to girls he could not even kill his own enemy.

Lol I don't really sided with Castalia, I have to say she is not even my favorite sister in the story. But It was guite inexpected to see Kane react like this in the first place but I understand him anyway. He is a sweet character and we are used to see him being so tender, sweet and good with girls as you said. And to see how they make it up is quite touching

I love Castalia because she was the only one who grew up, aside from Cassandra, the other ones are still figuring things out (Pea will take several years, Callista will never grow up). She was the only one who started off thinking of being badass and then realized that the real world is something else and she was just the frog in the well... and still, knowing she is not as cool as she thought she was, she decided that she needs to tackle it on her own - because it is easy to be the pirate balthasar in the shadow of a pirate king that supports you.
It is like when your childhood dreams come in conflict with reality - most people back down. Others go in denial. Castalia took a huge hit and decided to fight for it and work hard towards her dreams.

I see what you mean. Castalia is very interesting for all the reasons you said. What I like about her is her duality with Kane and how their 're completing each other. But for some reason I have a big crush on her sisters. Maybe because in a certain way, each one is a part of Castalia's personality / being. Logicaly, I should like Castalia as much as I like her sisters.
at that point of your story, I have to say that I like her more than before. It is interesting to not like a character at first, and to learn to understand him and to like him all along the story.
Just for example, I'm a big fan of the book A song of Ice and Fire, ( I don't know if you read it or watched the TV show) and many dislike Sansa ( Pea way ) and prefer her sister Arya. I like Sansa very much now while she irritaded me before, cause I learnt to understand her. ^^
I hope that I didn't hurt you, cause I just love your comic, your characters are well written and your story is addicting ^^

That is very interesting, I am not a big fan of GOT but the only character I really really like is Sansa - I place a bet she will become the hand of the King one day and a diplomat.
While I have placed a bet that Arya will spiral down and become the very thing she despised the most in others: a murderer.

What is it with this trend in anime and webcomics always having one member of the couple violently shoving, kicking, or punching their partner away?
Is it supposed to be funny?

No it is not. This is actually a take against that kinds of stuff - because it is an easy trope, it's cheap and annoying, it does not give violence the right importance and even though it's used as a comedy relief it's not funny at all. Just look at people's comment/reaction to this page, they are not having fun because it's not funny at all.
Cheap tropes is what causes people to jump to conclusions and post thoughtless comments under serious serious topics, when they are treated as such, whereby they should stop and ponder instead: why does violence escalates in a usually very well balanced couple?
I am very much against that. It's ridiculous!
Jumping to conclusion and siding with one character or the other might happen due to the constant exposure to this kind of superficial writing - older readers instead read through the situation and see, based on what they know of these characters, that there is something extremely uncomfortable and unnatural with them.
It is not normal, it is not funny, it is very dramatic when rage accumulates to this extent.
Especially considering this couple never fights and always communicates well.
The previous pages build up to this. Whatever these two have been through has had a bigger impact than most people thought on them- because physical pain, stress and overwhelming and constant pressure can cause anybody to just lose it.
In this case they are still suffering from the side effects of the poisonous smoke.
And since they are bound to feel what each other feel, if rages raises in one, it doubles and bounces back in the other and escalates quickly.
It does not take much effort to ask: Why is this happening to Them?
Because everybody is thinking: what's going on? Why?

I think I've got pretty much of an idea who she left to guard her ship. it's really better if she goes there.

Eh may be you're right ^^ The kick did startled me, though. Of course it's just a comic ^^ I just figured she could have talked her way out. He's her husband, after all, not a stranger trying to harass her.

Husband or no husband, any means necessary are perfectly acceptable to get out of a situation like that. He did basically just tell her he intended to take her against her will, after all.

It would be nice to hear what the artist intended that to be ^^ I read it quite differently. I saw a man who missed his beloved dearly, who nearly lost her to Circe, envisaging a warm reunion... and been denied it. I can quite understand the disappointment. I see someone more hurt that violent. Like, "No, wait, the ship, the someone you left with it, Circe... and what about me?". Something like that ^^ It's fascinating to see how different people read a piece of a story in different way.
