Power
Mirage
In its most basic form, Mirage is the ability to bend light and shape ideas into reality. First, manifesting itself as illusions, then later as mastery over light itself.
Level 1
Starting at this level, Caio has the ability to make basic illusions. Realistic illusions can be no bigger than the palm of his hand, or about 1 ft. in size, and anything larger will be a vague form of what it is supposed to be. Objects can easily pass through these illusions and will reveal its true nature upon inspection. Example: Caio makes a cookie and offers it to you. It looks totally real! You try to take the cookie. Oh, your hand passed through it. How disappointing.
Additionally, the more light, the more illusions he is able to create! It is challenging to make illusions in low-light and impossible in dark areas. He can’t create light after all. However, he can carry it with him. So, if he made the cookie in a well lit room, then brought it into a dimly lit room, it would still exist! And if he chose to, he could split the illusion into two cookies, or turn it into a flower. If there is not enough light to maintain the illusion, it will dim and fade away. This limitation is true for all levels of this ability.
Level 2 (Locked)
Caio has learned how to use his ability in more versatile ways. At this level he is able to focus the light into a force of energy, otherwise known as hard light manipulation. Illusions no bigger than the palm of his hand have gained some substance to them. When touched, it almost feels like the object is made of thin glass, and with enough force they can be broken. Example: Caio makes you a cookie again. You can pick it up! You try to take a bite. It shatters...How disappointing.
With this, he is able to create small barriers that can be used for defense. The barriers are fairly weak though, only able to withstand one hit before disappearing. These barriers can also be stepped on, but disappear quickly after one step. Illusions made with hard light can be thrown or seperated from Caio for a short period of time before disappearing. Example: Caio throws a cookie at you. It hits its target with a light pap before disappearing. But what’s this? A cookie is left on the ground. You pick it up. It disappears, its time is up. Goodbye cookie. We knew thee well.
He has also gained the ability to make small flashes of light to daze opponents, or reflect light away from him to hide in dark shadows. Additionally, his illusions can now be the size of a person, before becoming a vague transparent form.
Level 3 (Locked)
Caio can now make illusions of grandeur! His illusions could fill an entire room if he so chose. He does not have to focus as hard to make simple ones, giving him the ability to change his appearance, clothes, disguise himself, or create items at will. However, these illusions are much like his level one creations. Meaning, if one were to touch the illusion, their hand would pass right through it.
Also, he has learned how to focus his light into a much more concentrated form. Illusions made of hard light feel as if they are made of thick glass. Additionally, he can make these illusions about 5 ft. in size now. They can still be thrown, but with more force and left alone for longer periods of time. Whoa, is that a cookie jar? You reach inside, unaware of its soundless features and take a delectable treat. It doesn’t feel rough like a normal cookie, but it does look like one. You take a bite. Ouch, that is tough to chew through. It disappears. Ah, foiled again. The pot also disappears leaving behind a single real cookie. How wonderful~
His barriers are much larger and stronger, with the ability to withstand more force the harder he focuses. With enough practice, he can use these barriers as platforms to stand on, move around with, or create walls.
Personality
Fun | Spontaneous | Outgoing | Compassionate | Free-Spirited | Confident || Sensitive | Lax | Unorganized | Over-Dramatic | Somewhat Full of Himself
Caio loves to have fun, but more importantly, he enjoys having fun with people! If you’re the only one laughing then, what’s the point? He is a performer through and through, doing whatever it takes to put a smile on his audience’s faces. However, when he fails to do so, he might feel hurt or uneasy. If this were to happen, he would play it off and try to act normal. This is especially true if one were to come to him seeking advice. The boy would try to distract his guest, rather than offer any real advice. Otherwise, Caio can appear to be confident. Rarely embarrassed by his actions, no matter how absurd they maybe be. Should he be faced with a crisis, he will put on a calm face. Giving him the ability to jump into action where others might panic. Also, he tends to have his own flair of dramatics. Sometimes overreacting to things if only for a comedic effect. With a carefree, laid-back attitude, he could easily be mistaken for being lazy. This is not the case. He can be diligent when he sets his mind to it. The child just tends to slack on responsibilities. He prefers to take a hands on approach and live in the moment, often doing things with spontaneity. Caio can also be very perceptive, picking up on people’s emotions easily. Additionally, he does not like conflict and will go out of his way to avoid it if at all possible. Instead, preferring to be on friendly terms with everyone.
History
From a young age, Caio knew he was special. He felt like a spark, ready to ignite the dark, lonely sky. Yes, the boy dreamed of becoming a star! With each passing day, he felt like he was growing closer to his dream by learning how to sing and play the guitar. That was, until his family moved to a small town in Northern California. His dad found a great job as a park ranger there, and poor Caio found a great bit of nothing. There were hardly any people, at least compared to the city he grew up in. Nature was nice and all, but he thrived where the people were! The rising star craved their attention.School was a solace for Caio. He loved to goof around in class and chat with his classmates. It wasn’t long before he had become friends with almost everyone. Homework was, boring, but there was a talent show coming up! Of course, he would perform in it. He was ready to show the world what he could do! The boy strummed his guitar and sang his heart out, putting on his best performance yet. That was, until his voice broke on the final note. How embarrassing. He attempted to cover it up with a few extra strums on the guitar, but the damage was done. This was the first mark of puberty, and it came at the worst possible time. Since then, his lovely alto voice sounded like a frog jumped down his throat and started singing when he did. It was awful. Luckily, he was able to speak normally after a time. However, his singing career was over. For now at least. To top it off, his classmates had started growing their wings. He starred in the mirror day after day looking for any sign of his own, with no luck. Even his younger sister had already started growing hers! Maybe he was a late bloomer. Maybe...he would not get them at all. He stared at the sky, longing to feel the air beneath his own wings. Alas, it seemed it was but a dream.Caio felt down on his luck. His father wanted him to work at the park’s gift shop over the summer, boring as it was. He found chatting with the tourists to be some relief from the tireless drone of these menial tasks. Oh, how they loved him. Maybe he could become a tour guide! ‘That was not his job’, his father would always say. Right. It seemed like everything was going against him, stopping him from even taking a step towards his dream. He wanted to perform, become a shining star no matter where he was. Caio stared out of his window, up at the shimmering night sky. He just needed a spark. A chance. A change for the better. Somehow, the boy felt like if he reached hard enough, he could take that chance. Suddenly, he felt something warm in his grasp. Opening his palm he found it: A spark. It was like magic.Of course! He didn’t have to sing! There was so much more to him than that. He could dance. He could tell jokes. And now, he could make magic happen. Caio was ready to face the world with newfound confidence! And it was not long after, that his wings began to appear. His life was finally looking up. The icing on the cake? A weird guy offered him a place at a special school. Finally, he could get away from here! Perhaps this was his chance to take that step forward and find his place in the starry sky.
