The first time you see colour is the first time you lose him.

It’s July. The train feels disgustingly warm from the body heat of the hundreds of people around you, and as the train doors open for more people to enter, you find yourself staring out of the windows at the platform on the opposite side, eyes roaming over the crowd with disinterest. The sky seems more grey than usual, and you hope it’s going to rain today. Perhaps then it’d feel just a tad bit cooler than the hell it is now. Sometimes you wish you were born with a cooling quirk.

Your phone vibrates with a message, and you cast your gaze back down, almost missing the streak of something that makes its way into your sight. Your gaze hooks onto a boy with a head of spiky and - dare you say it - overly styled hair, and you wonder why the hell is someone wearing a Santa costume in the middle of summer and walking around like it was perfectly normal.

The striking red must have attracted so much attention by now—

You startle as a pair of scarlet eyes meet yours, and realisation hits like a truck to your gut. Seconds pass as you take in the teen now staring back at you with what you’re sure is a similarly shocked expression, and the smile he bursts into as he starts waving wildly seems to make your heart skip a beat.

A smile tugs at your lips, and it comes to mind too late that you should have turned and run out of the train - the doors close. The train moves, and you watch as his eyes widen and he hurriedly grabs the arm of the similarly spiky haired student beside him and gestures towards his uniform. The irritation that crosses the student with the whitish - you learn later that it was blond - hair pulls a laugh out of you, and you hope your grin and a nod is enough to tell you that you understand what he was trying to say.

Your eyes stay trained on his figure as the train leaves the station, and when your vision finally pans out, the sudden explosion of colour is overwhelmingly bright and dizzying. It almost blinds you.

You realise the world is filled to the brim with colours you don’t recognise - the absence of grey is surprisingly shocking. Amongst a whole new chromatic world, you think red, the colour you were able to put a name to because of the white beard and fur on the Santa Claus costume, might be the most beautiful colour you’ve seen yet.

“You like red because it suits me?”

Fast forward a few months, and you’re shrugging and fixing a red hat on his head as the boy in front of you huffs, disturbing his white moustache and making it fall to the ground.

“Why did I even participate in that bet?” Bakugou groans as he slaps the moustache back onto the red-haired teen’s face, and you laugh, readjusting it.

“Face it, it’s because you love us,” Ashido chirps, and Bakugou’s face twists in a way that’s almost comical.

Kirishima Eijirou looks hilarious wearing the same Santa costume he had worn the first time you’d seen him, and with the anticipation of watching him march down the streets full of people and children who’d be sure to wonder what’s Santa doing next to a scary guy, you haven’t laughed so hard in a while.

“Oh come on! It’s Christmas! It can’t be as bad as the last time you did it!” Kaminari shoots you a thumbs up as you step back and admire your work. “Right, Kirishima?”

Kirishima blinks at the question before glancing down at you, breath catching in his throat at the bright smile that you wore on your lips.

“I mean… It doesn’t feel that bad,” Kirishima starts slowly, and though he’s replying to Kaminari, he’s grinning at you. “If it makes [Name] happy.”

The light blush that dusts his cheeks is endearing, and you find yourself flicking him on the forehead as the emotion behind his gaze is enough to tell you he’s telling the truth. Heat rises to your cheeks and you hope no one notices, but that hope is quickly dispelled when Kirishima pokes at your cheek with a finger.

He’s never felt so happy that he could see colours now that he’s met you.

“It suits you better.”

You cock your head at his words. "What suits me better?"
