Day 24.5 of the 25 Days of Christmas Challenge
Prompt: Unwrapped

Major spoilers: If you have not completed Seven's ending in the Mystic Messenger Christmas DLC, you might not want to read this.

“We came at the perfect time. It’s just starting.”

Your ears perk up at the sound of distant explosions - or what sounded like explosions, at least - before you reached up and unwrapped the blindfold. The world was covered in a white and blurry sheen before your eyes readjusted, and you looked up.

“Fireworks…!” You breathe out in surprise. With the blindfold taken off, you could marvel at the explosion of colour and bright light.

“It’s not snowing…” Seven started. “But I’m so glad I’m seeing this with you.

“And you know what? Those fireworks burn themselves to emit the brightest light. And once the sparks fade away, they’re covered in darkness again.”

“You know, it’s kind of depressing when you put it that way. It’s kind of like us.”

He blinked, before surprise faded and a smile spread across his lips. “Yeah, like us - like me. I’m just happy I get to protect someone like you with those fragments of light.

“Warmth isn’t meant for me and I don’t have a lot, but I wanted to send it over to you.”

You laughed, squeezing his hand. Throughout it all, he never once let go, and you feel the warmth radiating from his hand to yours. “Warmth is meant for everyone. And warmth is passed around during Christmas, so I’ll send some to you too.”

You look up at him with a smile on your face, finally turning your attention away from the fireworks. The bright lights casted a colourful glow on the two of you as you said, “Fireworks… They’re admirable. They cast light and make people happy, even if just for a moment, so I want to be like one. I’ll shine the brightest for you, so be happy for once. This Christmas.”

He let out a laugh, pulling you into a hug and holding you close. “My first ever Christmas is with you, and that already makes me so happy.

“Thank you for being with me.”

You wrapped your arms around his waist in return, basking in the happiness of the moment. “If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t probably be spending Christmas alone in my room, all sad and lonely.

“So thank you, for returning to Earth.”

And for giving me the chance to know the real you.
