Description

Though all before me is shadow,
Yet shall the Maker be my guide.
I shall not be left to wander the drifting roads of the Beyond.
For there is no darkness in the Maker's Light
And nothing that He has wrought shall be lost.

Those words stroke Ser Otto like nothing had in a very long time. His own blindness had made this verse to be very special to him but this time there was something else. The voice. Voice was calm and stern but above all Ser Otto could hear the true fate behind the words. Fate which kind he had not met since his own youth.
"So very like I was", he thought and suddenly a single tear fell to his cheek.
"Maker, you know your light is nowadays enough for me but still... still I hope that I could see the lights of this world just this once."
...

Well, I just wanted to draw my two favorite templars together. Ser Otto, who is the best example of a true fate and unselfish dedication and Ser Livilla, my own templar character. Those two are so different and still so alike. And the things which make them similar are just those mentioned before; fate and dedication.

Ser Livilla has the "newer" templar armor whereas Ser Otto wears the "older" armor set.

Yeah, and then I can apologise the messy (and simple) background. I just hate to draw backgrounds.

Ser Otto and Dragon Age Origins are (c) to Bioware.
Ser Livilla is my creation.

Oh, you found this older picture of him and Livilla. This one has horrendously messy background but at least there are templar armors and Ser Otto in it.

Yes, Ser Otto is definitely the ideal image of a templar and one of the best NPC's in DAO. Damn Bioware. They kill every likeable templar they create. They must be apostate supporters!!!

Well... We have our feelings towards backgrounds  but I think you've done a good job putting the characters within a context with the wall behind them.

As always, great job on the complexity on their armour. And the preying hands... That particular pose speaks so much of softness and emotion (not to mention faith of coursre) A very stark contrast to the surrounding metal and stone around them.

Evil backgrounds (and scanners) haunt my creativity.

Definitely this is better with the background than without and like you mentioned it does bring more content to the picture.

I am perhaps not the most religious man on earth but I do ponder religious matters occasionally. Some themes and stories can also affect and move me quite much.
Those don't have to be necessarily real ones but also fictional ones can wake up the ponderer in me. Like with this case with the Dragon Age -game and their chantry and templar orders.

Ser Otto here is in my mind the best example of a true believer (be it whatever religion). Although his fate and dedication are strong, he does not push it to others but instead help them unselfishly and without any private gains. He is also very warm personality and his blindness somehow multiplyes his charisma.  Ser Livilla is personally quite different; strict, orderly and a little distant. But her fate and dedication are like Ser Otto's. She too won't hesitate to help others when the time comes.

You spotted the contrast of metal armors and bare (praying) hands. I am glad as that was one of the biggest ideas I wanted to add in this piece. I also wanted to make a bit of pro templar picture, showing them to be also something else than jailors, hunters and watchers of the mages.

Ah, once again you sparkled my overflowing joy to talk your ears off. Thanks for the comment!

oh yes... Them scanners be testing all your patience. If they don't munch on certain colours they steal the very light grey tones.

And don't worry, you're not talking my ears off. We both have a very strong narrative precensce in our artwork. The more we can tell about it, the more does the image make sense. Or something like that....

It's quite interesting... I'm not religious in any way either but sometimes spirituality and religion and the talk of gods pop up in the artwork. It's just that it adds a certain "umph" to the story in the image be it a certain theme or perhaps a certain feeling. In reality I prefer science and logic but within the art it's ok to "stand with a foot on the other side". To be frank - it's effective and useful even if you don't belive in it.

See, now you got me rambling on... Shame on you.

(And I'm certain you knew I'd spot the core idea and the details. )

Ser Livilla's ones? I always liked DAO templar armor design (Ser Otto) although the pauldrons were really massive. The newer DA2 templar armor design is not so heavy looking and especially the pauldrons are much more practical looking. Ser Livilla's armor is actually a mix of the DAO and DA2 armor but here you can't see much of it.

Both look pretty good, the one on the right a bit better, at least to me.

Older armor design then. Like said I like that one too but the newer version has its merits as well.
