Description One of the pieces I made during school u0u
Modified Brian Hendricks form on a custom plaster base with faux snow.

This boy had such bad leather that sewing was near impossible, acting more like wet tissue paper than leather. The fox was purchased from East Coast Capes for soft mounts so maybe that's where I went wrong somehow?? Pins couldnt be put in the face to hold things in place because it simply tore more holes in the face. Even with all these problems, I def want to mount another fox soon.

Awesome mount! I may re-think trying out their 'soft mount specials' after reading this.  I mounted one of their wet tanned foxes once, and she was saturated with so much oil I had to wash her twice, plus she  had a significant slip on her face. Though, for $75.00, I really can't complain...well, except I just did, didn't I?

Thank you! ♥

This fox had to be washed around 3 times to get all of the oil out; each time you pet him it would leave a nasty grime on your hands. I also bought a lifesize coyote hide from him about two years back and little to none of the coyote grease/stink had been taken out of the skin and had to be aired out for a month after mounting to even be allowed inside the house ahahaha

At least when I bought from them, I knew I was taking a gamble because of the too-good-to-be-true prices. Its a shame that their low prices attract beginners, who are usually not experienced enough to handle 'problem' pelts.

I usually buy from Hide and Fur. They're expensive, but  its worth it to have no problems, which leads to easier, quicker, mounting. Plus, the mounts look so good I can charge more for them!

I was thinking on it more last night and even remembered that the tanner had texted me the day after I purchased the fox and told me it had come straight fresh from the tan. However I had my instructor look over the hide and he confirmed that it was tan rotted and old.

I agree with that! H&F has never disappointed me with their pelts. I have a few wall-hangers from them and they're gorgeous and lack any of that awful greasiness. My only issue is the high shipping rates, other than that they're a fabulous company that is so kind to beginners.
