My entry for the Radical Racer challenge...

What a ride it's been. Long story but here's the abbreviated version...

Katherine and me grew up on the same block. Other kids would be playing kickball and such, we'd be tinkering on whatever our latest project was. Overhauling a discarded lawnmower or maybe formulating a higher octane gas from half empty bottles we'd find on the back shelves. Yeah, guess we were geeks.

We lost touch when she went off to college, she was going for physics or some other thing way over my head. Funds being limited, I enrolled at the local trade school to learn auto mechanics. Years later, after a long day at the garage and half asleep while nursing a beer at my usual watering hole, I heard her name come over the TV. "Hometown hero Kat Burns to participate in the Radical Racer Challenge!"

I showed up at a pre-race media event, all the time that had passed between us quickly evaporated. It was like we were kids again. KrazzyKat was what I called her back in our tinkering days...same wild child she was back then, name still fits.

Competition is going to be tough in this race. Big prize money, huge street cred and sponsorship deals will attract some of the best from around the globe. She's been beat before. Hell, a crash even almost killed her when she first hit the circuit. We're a good team though...she's got skills and a winning fire burning deep, I'll keep her ride tip-top. This'll be a dangerous, cut-throat journey. No worry folks, Kat got dis.

Lucky item...an old school compass handed down from her Uncle Hank, a respectable albeit low tech racer back in his day. His motto was "The right mix of gas, grease and guts will win any race". His legacy put the racing bug in Kat.

Special trick...Highly engineered bio-mechanical deterrent that can self-expand or retract depending on the particular need at hand. Developed specifically for this race with many uses for application...able to flatten tires, disable gear drives, even wildly distract other racers causing confusion and ultimate collision.

Transportation...Hovercraft with conventional and alternative power source options....carbon based combustibles, solar, biofuel. Geez, Kat even came up with a special fusion option that she uses when a close race needs a boost near the finish line. Strong in sprints, even stronger in the long hauls. This is the machine any Radical Racer would want in their arsenal.
