This is really ambitious for a first digital piece! It's really nice to see someone going straight for complex compositions and full backgrounds for their characters to interact with.
I love the color of the stream, but I think it could look a lot more interesting if the water was more translucent. You'd be less likely to visually lose the magical effect in the character's hand if the color wasn't so close to the color of the water.
You've got a great start for some of the details in the character's body, you just need to push it a little farther and make them more apparent!
The twisting bark on the trees is really cool~! Some darker shadows would really make it stand out. I'd love to see the leaves fleshed out a bit more to match!
