Well, taking into account that 80% of the atmosphere is concentrated in the troposphere, which is about 16 km thick, and that we were flying at 10 km altitude, yeah, we could say that space is pretty close...The official border is actually 100 km away.

Most people live closer to space than to the nearest large city.
