Or more like reports of a cult of demons summoning the Slayer/Doomguy to bring DOOM to all hellscape.

I feel bad for the Marine. He survived physically, but he lost himself in his head. And now with SIGIL coming upon us, he's had to fight even deeper into Hell than ever before. I look forward to playing it, but considering it within the context of these redesigns...

I was considering this exclusively in the vein of the original DOOM, actually. This seems to indicate that the Marine's sole emotional connection to Earth was his pet rabbit, and once she was gone, basically cracked and all that was left for him was rage and revenge. And then once Baphomet, the Icon of Sin, was destroyed, he had nothing.

UAC Personnel Log: 0013_93 - The Marine Cont.
The physical examination of the marine yielded unusual results. His body teeming with adrenaline and other unknown substances perhaps from Hell itself. these chemicals could be the reasons behind both his increased aggression and agility. It could also be the cause of reported abnormalities such as his eyes glowing a bright yellow and small lapses in visibility (not his ability to see, but his ability to be seen).
The acquired artifacts and samples from the hell invasion yielded stranger connotations to the marine. Stone carvings depicted a man of similar appearance to the marine facing the invasion, when translated they gave him the title of the "Doomslayer". It is unknown how the demonic forces came into knowledge of the UAC or the marine, or why they would create this title ad carving of the marine. Further investigation will be headed by Dr. Samuel Hayden and his team to further understand the "culture" of Hell.

UAC Personnel Log: 0013_93 - The Marine Cont.
*Addendum*
It has been postulated that due to the extra-dimensional nature of Hell, that their flow of time is out of sync with our own.
Therefore it is possible that these carvings are depicting events that have - from our perspective - yet to happen, but have happened in the Hell dimension or at the very least been foretold via observation from their end.
If the former is correct, then the question becomes: how much time passed between our Marines "beginning" and the events recorded by Hell?
Other hypothesis the multiverse theory. That the "Slayer" is the Marines counterpart from a separate dimension.
The implications either way... that there is someone not just, waging a one man war on Hell, but winning, is a matter of great interest to Dr Hayden.

Speaking of the Resistance, are they like the SLC Mormons from the Doom novels or a completely different kind of Earth-based resistance movement?

I've never read the Doom novels, so I can't be sure.
But, I figured that the resistance would just be comprised of the remaining humans on earth, either in hiding or making plans to move off-world.

I'm probably one of the few, but I was super sheltered growing up so I literally played the original Doom once in the electronics department of the local super market (RIP Holiday Mart). I read the novels before finally getting into Doom 3 and then going back and playing through the original so "Doomguy" will always be Flynn Taggart to me.
I love this, aesthetically it's incredibly pleasing. There's just enough blue in the background and just enough red to make things pop, plus the little details like the bunny tattoo and the spiked knuckle duster are fantastic easter eggs. I'd for real frame this and hang it on my wall.

I actually didn't grow up with videogames myself, though not necessarily out of being sheltered, but just not being very much aware of them. I didn't really get into Doom until the mid 2000s when I started looking at that stuff on my own. Heard some pretty good things about the novels, will have to check 'em out one day!
Thanks a ton, that means a lot! I'll consider putting it up on my print shop at redbubble!

Oh, the texture on top?
I usually just take a parchment or paper texture (from google images or other texture libraries, like CGtextures.com) and place it on top of the color layer, desaturate it and set it to overlay. That way you can mess with the preferred opacity, to make it more subtle or more blatant.

I appreciate you sticking with a more classic design. Although I do love the backstory of the new Doomslayer, a Knight Sentinel of another realm who punishes Hell for absorbing and destroying his home then being locked away for eons.
If the two versions of Doomguy ever met, Hell would have no sanctuary.
