Description Finally got this thing finished after leaving it sit on my computer for months. Decided to go with a flatter color style, as I feel it compliments my linework better. I really liked drawing this, and would love to tackle some more NES titles in this vein...

The battle from the game that started it all. And yet it's been so easily forgotten.

Classic Link, huh? That's really good. Link to the Past is my second favorite Zelda, although I'd bet this is inspired on the first Zelda from NES.

Also, are you still working on The Space Trilogy artwork? I'm curious, since those are rare, and yours were amazing!

Thanks a bunch! Just played through Link to the Past again recently, and it's pretty awesome.Β

I haven't done any Space Trilogy stuff in a while, but I definitely want to do at least some sketches and drawings from Perelandra and That Hideous Strength. Out of the Silent Planet is awesome too of course, but I don't think I've tried anything from the other two sequels yet, so it should be interesting! Thanks for the kind words, and glad to see another fan of the series!

Great piece, I love the Teradaish feel. The early Zelda concept art is the best in the frachise imo, and I feel you captured the feel in this piece quite well. It is more sharp that Terada's work and I feel the color work gives it a distinct feeling though. It might just be the digital medium as well though, you should give a traditional medium zelda piece a go .

Definitely, I've recently gained an affinity for Gouache paints, I'll have to experiment with things.Β

Gouache is pretty fun and can make for some stellar work, so definitely do that! I feel that you could benefit from the usual ink+watercolor combo as well, because your linework would really complement the way watercolor works. It's a tough medium to work with for sure though. I really like acrylic inks as well but they are much more opaque than watercolors so it wouldn't have the same feel. It's fun to see in what kinds of ways different media affect your own work that's for sure .

I really do need to experiment with watercolors and dyes with ink more, the old school comic guys are my heroes.

Excellent work.
The style and tone are reminiscent of the art from the Zelda: ALTTP strategy guide. Some influence, I'm guessing?

This is the kind of Zelda fan art you always hope to find on the net.

Dude that looks amazing, I was thinking you did the color tone on purpose in order to recreate some of those instruction manual artwork and in those Nintendo Power mag artwork whom I don't know the name of. Also, have you seen this collection?Β www.flickr.com/photos/historyo… there are variations of the monster art I've never seen before here.Β

Ha, thanks a ton! What a compliment, Terada's work is phenomenal!

I plan to at least do a Metroid piece in this vein soon, haven't done a totally complete 'background and all' Metroid piece in ages. Castlevania and Contra would be cool too, but I'll see how the Metroid one goes first.
