Description I reread Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief after years of avoiding it.  (If you're interested in why I might have dreaded rereading the most beloved book of my childhood, check out my latest blog post .)

Most of these will be obvious to anyone who's read the book, but from top left, we have Gen sulking, Pol eyeing Gen suspiciously after giving him ossil berries, Queen Irene and Queen Helen, better known in this book as Attolia and Eddis, Gen in front of the obsidian door, Gen "very carefully" tying up his hair, and finally the overall smarmy pain-in-the-ass Gen we all know and love by the end of the book.

Oh Eugenides.  Never change.  Oh wait, you do.

Any chance you could post just Gen at the obsidion door? I'd love to use it as my cell phone wallpaper.

I'm rereading this whole entire series in anticipation of Thick as Thieves in may.  It's amazing how much it has stuck with me over the years.

You're welcome!  Coming out in May!    Hah, everyone heard me scream at work (librarian) when I found out about it.

I love everything about this but man, especially about Eddis. That dress. The awkward hair and tiara... perfect.

Oh gosh THAT DRESS. I remember reading that and just... not imagining it because it was so awful, but now thanks to YOU...! I'm pretty sure I've seen that dress in Goodwill. Poor Helen. She needs a better fashion consultant.

Haha, I know, right?  But that's what I love about her--- she's awesome despite what she wears.  (And I think Gen tries to fill in as that fashion consultant, with mixed success.)

Oh man yes.  Gen and Irene are the power couple to end all power couples, but Helen is possibly my very favorite character.  She seems like she'd be the best to sit down and have a coffee and a long chat with.  (He's just got too much on his plate to do THAT with much success.  Although stealing and dedicating the ugliest bits of jewelry is a good start, bless him.)

I love this series too darn much. I must have reread the whole set at least 6 times annually by now. Well done bringing Gen to life

If you want another good read, look up The Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanigan.

It's a great series.  The sequels are ultimately better books--- I think by the second and third the author had refined her prose a little more, but The Thief has a special place in my heart because I fell in love with it at such a young age.
