I think it was the most tragic moment.
But it's only winning by an extremely short margin against Trull's death.

Yeah, that was unexpected. Like totally unexpected.
Although, to me, Toc is the most tragic character in entire series. The way he dies every time, and the number of his deaths...could be he's based on the real character which Erikson hate with all of his being.

OH GOD, I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT TOC DYING PROTECTING THE CHILDREN WHILE TOOL WAS WATCHING.
I remember dying a little inside after that.

I still remember the feeling while I was reading this very line:
"The flash of a knife before his lone eye. Sudden heat along the line of his jaw-
Torrent watched as the Letherii skirmisher cut away Toc Anaster’s face. One more trophy. The task was quick, well-practised, and then the soldier pushed his victim away, and the red wound that had once been Toe’s face plunged down into the mud."
My face hurt instantly, not to mention how I felt from the inside. That fucking amazing book.
