There is one character that will not fail to attract your particular (and unique) artistic skills.
Read 'Half a War'............... Discover BRIGHT YILLING.
Perfect rendition of Cosca the debauchee. Love it!

May I suggest the Riyria Revelations, then the Riyria Chronicles and finally The age of Myth by Michael J. Sullivan?
They're beautifully written, has amazing characters with wonderful character arcs and oh man, the story! The universe! I could gush for hours.
I think you'd love them. (If I've already suggested them feel free to delete my comment)

We'll have to see if it tickles my really picky tastes.
But dark humour, bloody scenes are interesting to read about so I might read it just for Nicomo and those.

Finished The Heroes today.
It was even bloodier and desperate than the previous books
And you meet again with some people. It's definitely a staple of Abercrombie's books.
The feeling it gives reminds me a lot of another series of books : the Chronicles of the Black Company.
It drips the same kind of ironic despair, you wonder how they can keep on their lives, apart from the survival instinct (which, in both series, is quite a useful skill). And yet, you laugh or grin often while reading it, because life is just one big cosmic joke, a perfect example of gallows humor.
So, now I will get to the last one, Red Country, I'll tell you how it is too
And I know perfectly what it is to have a big "to read" pile of books.
There's currently something like fifty books waiting to be read in my room xD

Well, my reading skills were rusty, until my Internet line encountered some problems two months ago.
It appears that putting all my Internet time into reading time shook down the rust pretty fast
Now I'm reading a book per week at average (and I try to take enough time to read too).
Almost everyone that started the Black Company books said at one point that it was confusing. It's quite an understatement. It's VERY confusing, because of the point of view chosen. But I kept on reading them, and then reread the first ones, and now it's a lot easier to grasp
Even though there are even more confusing narrators later (oh God, Murgen, why you so damn mad).
But in the end, it was a really important series to me, and its conclusion was phenomenal : the last plot twist left me in both tears and laughters.
And no, I had no idea a tv show was in the works. I'll remain cautious on this one. It's a very long series, with quite a darkness to it and a lot of weird elements. To have some credibility, it will be costly. So, time will tell, but I'm not optimist on this one.
If HBO or Netflix decided to back it up, maybe (they have the budget).
I'll read the Malazan Book of the Fallen one day. It's on my "to read when I finish everything else" list hahaha
I'll finish Red Country today or tomorrow, so you'll have my last review of Abercrombie next time

Oh, don't be impressed, I'm not reading them in their original language either !
I read their french translations (there is some really good translators for the fantasy genre in my native language, the most renowned one being Patrick Couton, a man that accomplished something of a miracle : keeping all the wordplay and jokes there is in Terry Pratchett books).
Yep, Cook did the first three books while working on a Ford assembly line.
A cruel reminder of improductive I can be
Aye, we'll see. But after things like the Preacher adaptation, or worse (Legend of the Seeker...), I suppose one has to be realistic about these things
Oh, I'll do it, I never forget a series I want to read, even if it takes me years to start them. Right now, I want to finish The Witcher and Mistborn !

I see. Unfortunately, Serbian publishers are not that dedicated when it comes to new titles...we must wait a couple of years for a book to be translate & published, so it's better option to just buy original books on English, than to wait for god knows how much time. For example, "The Heroes" are published here just this year, a month ago.
Yeah, Ford it is. Just imagine the dude writing on every break. The funny thing is that Glen said later he was actually more productive while writing in factory, then writing at home when he become famous writer. Insane.
Sure. It could be great, or it could be butchered like GOT/ASOIAF thing.
Great! Malazan is just masterpiece of the genre, and it would be a bad thing to miss it.
Oh, The Witcher? First two books are amazing, the rest not so, really. IMO, ofc.
On the other hand, Mistborn is a killer trilogy!

Oh, damn, The Heroes was published in France in... 2013.
I understand your stance on the subject then
Definitely insane. But at the same time, to some people, writing is a way to escape.
I remember Arturo Perez Reverte (a spanish writer, who was a war reporter before that, sorry for the explanation if you already know the man ) saying something like that.
Maybe because he needed less to escape, he was less efficient ?
Oh, GOT wasn't butchered until season 5. And even then, I still enjoy it as some kind of "alternative ending" to the books.
But GoT has a rather colossal budget.
I won't, I promise
Well, I'll tell you if I liked the third one or not then !
Mistborn is really cool, Sanderson has quite the gift to create coherent systems of magic.
To conclude, Red Country was awesome. I can't tell if it's the best book of the series, but I'm damn sure it's a very good book. Feels like Unforgiven made babies with Blood Meridian in a fantasy universe.

Yeah, total bummer. For the bigger irony, chronology of publishing is upside down as well. "The Shattered Sea" trilogy is published before "The Heroes", and "Red Country" is announced for the next year. Thank god for Book Depository.com and original books.
No, I haven't heard about the man, but it has some sense. I'm not the writer, but I guess that's got to be some kind of escape. Even for a short time.
Dunno, IMO it was butchered from the very beginning, and season after season things just getting worse. Well, if Martin doesn't want to write the end, HBO will do that instead him, for sure.
It's a deal!
Great review! I heard it has some of that western movies flavor.
