Description For the Tortall Comics Project.

Hey Everyone!

I know I've kind of just been lurking for, while, ever, but I've finally come out of hiding!

So here is what has been cramming my sketch book for the past few months. A few little pictures of the Charm Against Pregnancy found so commonly in the Tortall universe.

Personally, I like numbers 2 and 9. Any other opinions. I plan on taking everyone's favorite (or maybe a couple) and making them out of wire.

Thanks for taking a look!

I like nine and twenty. Fourteen, fifteen, and seventeen are nice too. Two looks too much like a treble clef to me.

9 and 10 are great.
Were they made of wire in the books? I've always imagined then as tiny engraved gold squares. >.<

Thank you. I'm not sure, but for some reason I thought it was silver wire. I don't have any of my books on me, though, so I can't look it up >.<

I like four and nineteen. What type of wire are you going to make them out of?

I don't have the packaging, but I'm just using a basic craft wire which I believe is 16 gauge.

Thank you! I really wanted to contribute something to the TCP, but couldn't see myself fitting into any of the set roles. This, however, has been eating at the back of my mind for a while. Thanks for the input I really like 7 as well, but I don't know how it would transfer into 3d as well as some of the others.

Anyway- I like 9 also.

In the book it is described as the womb closed of, though the exact phrasing escapes me. I think that it is supposed to be very symbolic that way, and more connected to the Goddess. Thanks for the input!

2 does look a little like a treble clef, now that I look closer at it. I do like 29, but I worry about the complexity.

No, and I doubt they would be ok with me setting one up in my dorm

I'm going to try and bend it, but it wouldn't create the seamless-ness it is supposed to have in the book.

For some reason my brain picking out 5, but 9 makes the best design sense... but it's super obvious as to what it is too, which might be the point.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deku2 In reply to Raven-Demon-Assasin [2011-08-19 01:19:44 +0000 UTC]

I like 5 too, but I don't know how tricky it would be to make it into an actual model. I agree that 9 may be a bit literal, but it was one of the interpretations that I had read bout somewhere. It is described as the womb closed off, which is where all of the circles in the earlier ones came from. The latter ones (like 9) were something I thought of after reading around on some other discussion boards

Raven-Demon-Assasin In reply to deku2 [2011-08-19 01:30:17 +0000 UTC]

19's also good, and it seems like it would be easier to make for a model.

Truthfully none of them fit my own mental image, which is probably why I'm not in love with any of them. 5 stuck out to me, but I think 19's my favorite. Even still 9 does make the most sense, and it would be the best for a charm, especially if you need some kind of representative (let's imagine that it's related to Roger's doll trick).

It is hard to make something so fluid and individual sit still. Not everyone is going to see it the same and it is so general that there is a lot of wiggle room. Thanks for all the input!

Raven-Demon-Assasin In reply to deku2 [2011-08-19 18:45:15 +0000 UTC]

Understandable, especially since there's really no explanation in the text and it's just up to the imagination.

Good luck!
