Description Omg.. dudes.. i cant believe i havent shown you my NVArt entry.. anyways here it is..

This is my entry painting for the NVArt challenge on CGTalk. It is a mobile Mars exploration and science station.
Martian Mining Corp built a heavy-duty science vessel to explore Martian surfaces and find new metals and mineral-rich mining spots. The huge circle-type antenna on the back of the vehicle allows the crew to scan and gather valuable information about the deep ground below them without ever leaving the vehicle. A ground-type vehicle also excludes any type of signal interference with orbital satellites.
What i did was that i gathered a whole bunch of Syd Mead's paintings and started to analyze them. I had a lot of trouble coming up with something unique and interesting. After sketching for two or three weeks, i decided to make a painting about a scientific mars explorer vehicle with unique wheel and suspension systems.

Photoshop
Wacom Intuos 4
Google SketchUp
Took me about 3 months to finish

sounds nice.. you ever bought books from the internets?
Is it easy/safe/reliable to buy from places like Amazon?.. theres quite a lot of books that i'd like to buy actually.. all the ballistic publishing ones, sparth's books and so on..

No problem.
Amazon is very easy, safe, and reliable. Almost all of my books were bought from there. And if you don't like what you bought, simply return it. Sparth's book, Structura, is very inspirational, and also Scott Robertson's books(btw, his new book will be out soon, too). Good luck!

3 months? damn, turned out nice. That thing certainly looks like it would be the ultimate RV (Recreational Vehicle) for astronauts going to Mars, and allow or a long stay.

3 months ? wow thats a long time. explains why you havent added anything on for a while.
do you hand draw pictures like this then scan them in and paint them or do it all on computer?
by the way nice work i see the 3 months really paid off

haha..! damn.. i should've fix'd that description..
the Project duration was 3 months.. i had pauses and school tasks and personal life everywhere there in between..
The lack of stuff recently on DA is because i decided to only put more finished pieces here.. all the sketches/test renders/paper sketches/anything else you can see on my blog: j2dab.blogspot.com
And now when our short movie project started at school.. and im the Art Director there - i dont have much if any time to do personal stuff at all.

My techniques vary Very very much... sometimes i sketch a 3d model and start from it.. in 3dsmax or Google Sketchup like in this situation.. sometimes i draw on paper and then scan or i usually take a photo actually... most of the time though i start drawing or painting straight in Photoshop.

Dekus In reply to jackdude180 [2010-09-29 08:04:42 +0000 UTC]

really? why not put your 3d stuff in gallery?
cgi animation.. basic shit.. our first real 3d project. im in a 4 guy group (3 guys + me). and rest of the group decided to take one guys idea about a worm and a bird.. its totally random and i didnt care what idea to make.. all were good.
Hmm.. i can put my idea's storyboard in my blog im someone is interested to see.
