i was actually photographing a chess set today myself and i kept running into the problem of finding a background so that it was less distracting....this is a solution that I would have never have thought of!!

my "studio" is simple black Bristol paper, mirror, two small lamps and few white A4 sheets(like reflectors). you can build your own studio in few bucks

Several problems (is it right to start with the bad things ?)
1) Horizon line isn\'t streight
2) It\'s not focused enough
The idea and the lights are just perfect

yeah i notice the streight problem... it one of the problems that i have when i shot at my improvised studio, i can't fix everything streight... i hope it isn't so bad...
the focused problem is probably cause by the noise cleaning process.

well, as far as lighting or mood? haha. As far as lighting, dark isn't always good, but as far as mood, yeah, doesn't bother me any.
