Description
Cover to the fairytale manga, "La Plume," written by yours truly. I'm using it as pat of my portfolio that I'm submitting for my grad school applications.I can't remember where I got the pattern in the yellow background, but the rest are listed.

I really like how you used gradients, and colored the lineart. it definatly give the whope picture a dreamy quality.....

OK I have to admit anime isn't my style, so I'll just refrain from commenting on proportions. The lineart is well done, and I like the background. My only gripe is with the shading, and it has two parts: One, it looks odd having a texture on the background and nowhere else. It looks disjointed. Two, why on earth are the shoulders red, and why is the only shadow in the whole picture under the chin? On the whole, the figure and birds look unfinished.

I didn't want to add a lot of shadows to the picture, but there are some in more than one place. Under her chin, yes, but there's a shadow in between the border and the background. And the background isn't the only place with a texture; her dress has one too. I didn't want to add to much of that either.
Still, I really appreciate getting a critique. I don't get too many of those, sadly

Well, I can probably go back and do a full out shading for the image when I have free time (which I would do normally) but I needed to keep it a little simpler so that I can actually finish my applications on time. I do have something in the works that's fully shaded though.
And there's nothing wrong with high standards. It means that you might catch a mistake that the artist wouldn't :wink: It's a shame that not too many people give out constructive criticism.

But thank you for the advice. My problem was that the colour scheme was all over the map, y'know? Although the colours should probably have been more saturated, looking at it. Yeah.

Lol. Well I'm definitely not there yet as far as coloring's concerned. I'm still learning about digital color.
Yeah I know what you mean. But try the color balance tool. It unifies the art piece as a whole.

Thanks ^_^ and it's okay. The comic only has one page right now though. I'm having a hard time doing more because I'm working on my applications for grad school. But maybe I'll draw more after they're done
