I would guess that some nights, neither of them can sleep. Probably some bad dreams.

Like I said in the description, this piece is open to many interpretations. But there's one thing I want the viewers to notice is that on nights like these, Mello would come to Near's room and no one's else. The blonde couldn't tell exactly why. Was it because he didn't want to be alone or was it because Near was the only one who wouldn't question anything? Were there any other reasons? Mello didn't know or care at this point. At least the blonde felt like he could deal with his own demons a little more easily with Near's presence. Maybe they were just fighting the same battle.

Near and Mello are kindred spirits, even if they seem total opposites. You get the sense that they deal with a lot of the same pressures and traumas, just in their own ways. And not only would Near not question Mello, he wouldn't say anything to anyone else either.

Yes, and I think Near wouldn't question because he could figure a part of what Mello was going through on his own. Sometimes these kind of secrets were too dark to touch, let alone to pry open. Near wouldn't tell anyone because he wasn't the type of person going around and spilling others' secrets. Especially when he could see a part of himself in the blonde. In other words, what happened in Near's room, stayed in Near's room and nobody needed to know.
