What brushes do you usually use? I'm still looking to expand what I have. I like the area around the shoulder that appears to have some kind of overlay. Is this a brush with this effect or are you layering to get this?

i use a handful of brushes ive collectes over the years from various different sources. if you check out my resources folder in mu favourites, theres a few in there. i also have a copy of my current brushes hiding over on dropbox, heres a download link for ya: www.dropbox.com/s/c46p88amm4iw…
the first fifteen or so brushes are the ones i use most often while the rest are neat texture brushes i use sparingly. usually i start with a sketch using the pencil brush, throw on quick colours with a mishmash of everything else, and use two or three more for detailing
as for layers! i use a ridiculous amount of layers for colour tweaking, highlights, shadows, and other effects. i used an overlay layer on the shoulder, yes! usually i use light yellow or blue overlay layers for lighting and dark blue or red set to soft light or multiply for shadows. sometimes ill just slap a bunch of weird colours on a new layer and scroll through blending modes to see if something neat happens

This helps a lot actually. I've only recently started playing with different filters but I'm still not satisfied with the brushes I have. I've been looking for a rough palette knife effect as one of them.
Thanks for the link as well! I don't have a drop box account but I'll have to make one. Are you working on CS 6 or 5? I've been wanting 6 but I feel it's too expensive now to bother, though so many brushes I want to use are for 6.
