Description At the edge of Summit Lake, beneath the peak of Mt. Evans, there is a massive glacial valley that drops out beneath the surrounding mountains. Here there are sheer faces of rock hundreds of feet in height. Reading the history written in the stone of these walls is breathtaking.

Man, what an illusion!  It took a while for my eyes to figure out the left corner was the BACKGROUND of the picture; I thought it was a cliff until I noticed the angle of the sunlight...

It is a cliff that you're looking at from a perpendicular angle.

That's what I thought!  Where is this area located?  Looks like it might be around Canada's northern mountains.

It's in Colorado, in the Mt. Evans wilderness area. West of Denver.

Interesting looking at the different layers in the rockface. Makes you realize how old our young world really is.
