Description Step 1: find a picture you want to do. In this case Scebiqu's Catra piece. Several factors have to be considered before pressing ahead on a picture. One must be resigned to the fact that you NEVER match the original art. And that's the point. You don't want to match it but compliment it in another medium. If you are matching then contact the artist of the original for that.

Case in point. I found Β done by John00065 in an issue of Wizard magazine some years ago while I was stationed in England. I made my own version of it thus: . When he finally saw it and contacted me about it he wasn't upset. Quite the contrary. He was flattered because his oil painting was done in a weekend while mine took more than a year to complete. Don't always assume an artist will accept you copying their work, however. From one artist to another, I asked for permission to use this Catra pic and Scebiqu consented. It only seems right to me, and if he had refused, I would have honored that and gone with a stock image from the Filmation character sheets I have.

The next thing is size. These pictures are so large now that they take a minimum of a year to complete because of the detail I want nowadays. The bigger it is the better the detail. However, there is a size limit in the dimensions of glass craft places have on hand for framing. I refer you to the Attack Mode SDF-1. That's about as big as I can safely go before the cost of framing would be ridiculously expensive. Also, it's hard on the lower back. I've been doing these since Dec 1989. Trust me on this.

Once you decide on the picture, you have to decide on the size. The picture itself will dictate that when you choose the detail. not all pictures translate well to a larger size and some details will be lost. Again, go to the Robotech Art Book 1 and look for the Attack Mode SDF- 1 black and white pic in the back. You'll see all the details lost. Or look at the WIP pictures of the Iron Man comic cover. You'll see I couldn't do the bolts in the logo.

Once you have the image decided upon, it's on to step 2.

I'm sorely tempted to call this picture perfect! Or should I print, PURRRR-FECT? LOL
